Wonderful local place with great food and nice staff. Their English is not that good but they are still very helpful! Prices are amazing and food is very good! You can get a whole menu with 10 euros! Definitely worth trying when in Rome!

I had the pleasure of going to Rome and one of the most amazing experience I have had was eating at Burro e surgo it has the most authentic Italian food. If you have the chance, you need to go to Burro, you won’t regret it!!!

Authentic, fresh, fast and in an intimate residential environment away from swarms of tourists! This is a hidden treasure in the San Paolo neighborhood close to the Basilica(a walk there after dinner will surely help with the digestion!) We ordered the beef with green pepper sauce, wild boar fettucine, a bowl of mussels, and seafood pasta. Everything was delicious! The service was great too! They were very attentive and even gave us complimentary sangria. I would definitely recommend checking this restaurant out.

I Unilocaled for places around our hotel, the pulitzer, and this place showed up and had great reviews so we decided to walk and check it out. 15 minutes later and we were being seated by a friendly staff. We ordered the 7 € meals and let the head waiter pick out our dishes based on his recco. We had the tuna and penne, tagliatelle with wild boar, razor cams and potatoes, bruschetta and some beers. The main guy went out of his way to make sure we were happy with our meal, even preparing a custom dish for my one year old who loves broccoli –made him spaghetti with broccoli and sausage. He even treated us to limoncello when he brought out dessert. TL:DR Place has great food and even better service at a minimal cost.

I enjoyed the food and drinks. Definitely come see a new neighborhood and have a great time. Excellent environment and good service. Nice place to relax from all the noise from the inner city, while drinking homemade drinks!

This was… is since I’m still here… such an experience. Not speaking any Italian made this so incredibly instructing, frustrating… but actually quite fun! It took nearly 30 minutes just to place our orders because of the misunderstandings between languages. Once we got that down they gave us wifi, beer and free sangria… so I had to write a review on the spot. The food was authentic, fast and fresh. The bruschetta is a must try. The ambiance is the perfect place to experience true Italian culture. I was even tempted to ask other customers if they speak English to make this even more fun. Overall this place had good vibes… even with the language barriers. If you’re traveling around in Rome make sure to stop by. …and just a side note. Make sure you communicate well to a taxi driver. Our guy went all over the place because he didn’t understand then tried to charge is € 23 to what should have been 2 miles.

Hidden gem. The food is good but the service is amazing! Christian and Muhammed were awesome and at least conversed with me a bit as I was dining alone. Christian even offered to give me a ride home since I’m staying in a neighborhood close to where he lives(haha turned down that offer but an innocently nice gesture). When you choose your dessert you HAVE to get the tiramisu! OMG. I don’t even like dessert, let alone sweets, I almost got the fruit salad but I thought hey, why not. So glad I did because it was to die for, so decadent! Don’t forget the free shot of limoncello after your meal to have you stumbling out the door, I’ll be back!

This restaurant is located in a residential area on a small hill. We sat outside, where the mosquitoes feasted on my legs. My husband ordered the«meat menu»(17 euros) and I ordered the«Fish menu»(21 euros). Both consisted of several courses and we definitely got our moneys worth. Although, my husbands steak was very tough and I’m pretty sure they skipped one of my courses. The food was tasty, but I cannot say it was the best food I had in Rome. I recommend trying this place if you are in the area, but if you are no where near it I don’t think it is worth the extra effort.

This restaurant was by far my favorite in Italy. I had a few meals in Italy and nothing can quite measure up to this. We tried the pappardelle with wildbear sauce continued with the pizza Margherita, and ended with such a dessert delicacy, the kiss mousse. This was my first time in Italy and fell in love with the food because of this place! Earlier that day I had a pizza in another location and I was quite disappointed but trying the pizza Margherita here made me change my mind about Italian pizza :) The staff was really friendly as well and the owner, Christian. They were very helpful with the menu and stopped by the table a few times to make sure we had everything we needed. The environment felt great and I remember thinking this is what being in Italy is suppose to feel like. All these delicious combinations of ingredients in my mouth as my friend and I listened to the music and enjoyed our first real dinner. Highly recommend this place! And don’t forget to end with the kiss mousse, I promise it won’t disappoint. Bön appetit!

Burro e Sugo is a great restaurant. The food was the best I’ve had in Italy. I also love the location because it was away from the city centre and all the tourists. It was a great place to eat and I would highly recommend it to everyone.

Loved this place! We are study abroad students from the United States and toured Italy during our spring break and I can honestly say that this restaurant was the only one that succeeded in giving us a real Italian experience. The portions were very big and the ambiance was homey. We went for lunch on Easter Sunday and were fortunate enough to experience a whopping 6 course meal for only 24 euros. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Basically, for two college students who were experiencing Easter away from home for the first time, this could not have been a better place to do it.

So we went here because of all the amazing reviews on Unilocal and have to say we really don’t understand what the hype is? We arrived, it was a Monday night, we were the only table in there, we were actually thrilled that this place had a high chair for bub as everywhere else we had been didn’t! So we thought we picked a winner! We chose our meal deal thing which I think seemed to look like a lot more on paper than what actually arrived! I literally had lettuce and tomato as a salad maybe a big handful worth?) and 3(big sized) meatballs and that was my main?!! The other half ordered the more expensive deal thing and I really don’t understand how a few pieces of prosciutto and a few bits of cheese justified the extra cost? And the fruit salad consisted of Apple and pear and a few bits of pineapple drenched in juice. It was ok food but there are so many better cafes around the area that you can buy pizzas/pasta from by weight that taste so much better than the food we got here and cost maybe a third less! Only reason it’s getting 3 stars instead of 2 is because it had the high chair!

This restaurant is one of the few in all of Rome that will combine everything you ever wanted: affordable prices, great service, delicious food and perfect location. The restaurant is 5min away from the metro station of the Basilica, can host big and small parties and offers everything you love about Italian cuisine. Buon apetito!

Great food and great service. We ate at numerous pizzerias but this restaurant was by far the best. Not on a main road so maybe difficult to find. Highly recommended.

The food here was really good(the bruschetta was so good I had to try really hard not to offend the other people at my table by eating all of it myself). The location is also really nice! It’s not in any of the typical tourist places, and it was really nice to get a different view of Rome by going here. I would highly recommend.

During my stay in Rome, I have to admit I was extremely fortunate to stumble across this restaurant. I’m not one to write many reviews but after my experience I had to. The owner Christian is very welcoming and runs a wonderful restaurant. The menu had a variety of choices and the prices were more than fair. The quality of food was superb too, I had the pappardelle with the pasta cooked al dente as it should be and the sauce was perfect. There isn’t a negative thing to say about this place. I’m already planning my trip back to Rome and this is definitely one of the places I’ll go to first.

This place is delicious! It was definitely one of the best meals I had while in Rome and I was there for a whole month. It is a real authentic Italian experience. I had the carne dinner which came with like 3 courses all for 17 euro, it is a great deal compared to other restaurants in Rome where the food is mediocre at best and overpriced. The place is easy to get to off the metro which makes it very convenient. The service is great and the owner is really nice, give it a try.

I think dining out should be a comfortable experience, like dining at home but entirely more social. I don’t think it should cost a lot(unless you’re fine dining), and I don’t think it should last under thirty minutes(unless you’re pregnant). I’ve eaten at Burro e Sugo twice during my visit to Rome, and I have to say I really enjoy this restaurant. I like how the menu options are set out easily so you can have a sample of every course. The environment is cozy and the staff are really friendly, particularly the proprietor, Christian, who welcomes both Italian and the occasional non-Italian diners with energetic friendliness. Everything is tasty, but I was most impressed by the delicious pomodoro bruschetta, the pappardelle with cinghiale and the homemade limoncello. The latter was better than anything I had around Naples, where they apparently invented the stuff. Close to the Metro, fun times and lots of food; all things that lead to fun Roman times.

Between San Paolo and Garbatella areas, this small restaurant combines the familiar atmosphere with the quality of local food and affordable prices. With a € 6 or € 8 menu for lunch time, and a € 17(meat) or € 21(fish) menu for dinner, you will walk out full and satisfied. The menus include entries, pasta, a main course, and a home-made dessert, but I recommend to add the home-made limoncello which is simply delicious. Every once in a while there are also events, such as the«dark dinner» to enjoy with lights off while served by a group of blind waiters: something that has to be tried at least once!
