Ai Marmi

Efficient service and good food made this a good spot to take one of our last meals in Rome. It is hard to miss along the main street in Trastevere, and their menu features something for most tastes. It’s priced very reasonably and the atmosphere is energetic and casual. Even if you can get better food elsewhere, this is a worthwhile stop if you are in the mood for neapolitan pizza and fantastic people-​watching (both diners and passers-​by).

It’s 10:30pm on a Sunday night– no place open right– wrong. This inside –outside restaurant is the real local Roman Place to eat. Recommended by the young man at the desk of the hotel–
«Don’t worry if they throw the plates at you– they are nice and the food is good».
So we did it–
Fried rice ball with cheese inside is tasty– suppli. Pizza good– time open is fantastic!

Evidently, this is known to be one of the oldest pizzerias in Rome– since 1912 I was told. Some locals call the inside the «obituary» (I think they meant mortuary!) because of the marble tables inside.

Eat like a local. This place was recommended to my by London housemate. Crazy busy place that won’t break the bank and is surely locally loved. Always crowded so you’ll wait but the pizza will be great and the wine carafe for 8.50 euros won’t be bad either. Loved this and think it gave our Roman trip exactly why it needed!

Ok there is no doubt the pizza is the best I’ve ever had and therefore they get the four stars, but wow the service was horrendous. I understand that service in Italy not like it is in America, but this guy was so rude. The wait for the pizza was long which was whatever but the waiter was plain mean. Not sure if I will go back. But the pizza…

This is the best pizza we had while in Italy! We were lucky that this was close to our airbnb. We noticed the line, night after night, and decided to look it up. Lo and behold, we better get down there!
They mostly have pizza here, no pasta. I don’t think you can really go wrong here, but I had a speck and gorgonzola and it was deliciously stinky. We also shared a more typical sausage and somethin’ else, and I loved it too! We had a hard time picking a favorite out of just two, so I recommend getting as many as your group can handle! Get your Peroni and Roman Pizza here!

We didn’t have a reservation and the restaurant was full at 10pm. They were able to seat us inside however which were grateful for although it was terribly hot due to the huge pizza oven! Being inside was great though to see the pizza team working together to get out approx 40 pizzas per cooking cycle. Amazing crispy base on the pizzas — though there was no displays of dough spinning.
Also I’d recommend the suppli and zucchini flowers to start — you’ll only need one of each to leave room for the pizza. Be prepared to wait for your pizza as this place is so popular. Our waiter was great even though we spoke very little Italian.

Amazing pizza and fried zucchini blossoms! This place is very authentic, reasonably priced, and it was mostly Romans dining. I deducted 1 star because service towards tourists aren’t that great.

This was our last dinner stop after some amazing foods in Roma. Great great pizza. We ordered 4 different pizzas for all of us they were all very delicious.

Probablement l’une des meilleures pizza que j’ai jamais eu l’occasion de déguster.
Choix assez vaste. Les pizzas sont préparés sous vos yeux si vous êtes à l’intérieur du restaurant.
C’est une adresse connu des locaux, ça change des restaurants touristiques.
En bref, cette adresse vaut vraiment le détour.

Our first stop in Rome! This pizzeria is a MUST visit! Their fresh wood fired pizzas are unlike anything I’ve ever had before! Also, the staff are so friendly and nice! The experience was amazing!
We ordered the pizza margarita and the prosciutto pizza! Both amazing!

The best Roman style pizza in town! I had the zucchini flower with sausage pizza and all of the flavors came through. The crust is thin compared to pizza napoleatana and slightly singed to give it more flavor. Line was out the door by the time I left!

Enjoyed the melazane and the capricciosa pizzas, but found the scarola too salty to enjoy.
Our waiter spoke some English and tried to be very helpful.

No he cenado en un lugar mejor en Roma. Sitio auténtico, italiano a morir, mesas de mármol pegadas unas a otras y unos camareros gritones, veloces y efectivos.
Especialidad en frituras (ojo a las flores de calabaza rellenas de queso y anchoas y a las olivas rellenas y rebozadas) y en pizzas (la napolitana es insuperable); además, el precio es ajustadísimo, por no mucho mas de 10 € por cabeza, se cena de maravilla.
Al no estar en la zona turística del Trastevere, el ambiente no es nada turístico, mayormente lo ocupa clientela local del barrio. Este es el lugar.

A né pas rater !! Les prix sont très abordables et les quantités servies généreuses. Ambiance cantine très conviviale et service efficace.

This is the one and only pizza, anything else is an imitation. Appetizers are great but other than suppli’ I like to stick to their pizza because it’s absolutely the best one in the entire world.
If you’d like to try their appetizers, the suppli, fried zucchine and «baccala» which is fried cod are delicious.
The only disappointment is that in the past 10 years or so the prices have doubled, a margherita pizza used to be around $ 4 and now $ 10, the euro hurt everyone…

Only order the cheese pizza when ordering pizza. Our sausage was not good. Picked it off and ate the cheese pizza. All the local Italians only order the cheese pizza. Fried apps seemed good too. Bruschetta was really good. I would not come back here with Dar Poeta so close by!

When I arrived at the restaurant (7:30pm), there was plenty of outdoor seating available. Within the next half hour, there were more than 20 people waiting and no elbow room left among those who were already seated. Clearly, this restaurant is a popular place.
Being American resulted in slower and less attentive service than the locals, so keep that in mind. In general though, the food took a very long time to come out compared to many of the other pizzerias I have visited here in Italy. Two pizzas took about 20 – 25 minutes to come out. Though the service was below par, the food was good and the pricing was fair.

Our first dinner in Rome in 2005 and I remember it like it was yesterday. The pizza was perfection, and a liter of the house wine did the trick. This is a busy, lively restaurant frequented by locals. This is not a quiet, romantic place for the oldies. Come here to soak it in, have fun, and enjoy Rome at it’s finest. The sidewalk tables are prime location. This is why you came to Italy. Live it and love it!
The only problem? You’ll compare every other pizza YOU EVER EAT to this place… and you will continue to be disappointed. It is however, one of the best memories of my life so far.

Very popular place. Quite crowded but outdoor seating is nice. Authentic Italian pizzas were delicious! A full pizza is for 8 to 9 euros so prices are reasonable.

Ich werde jetzt auf Anhieb mit meiner Bewertung vermutlich keine neuen Freunde gewinnen, aber darauf kommt es auch nicht wirklich an. Ich schreibe diesen Beitrag mit knapp 30 Jahren Gastroerfahrung und lassen uns nicht von Hypes blenden die in nationalen und internationalen Reiseführern und der SZ so hoch gelobt werden. Der Laden ist ansich echt eine Schau, denn sie verdient zurecht den Namen Leichen-​, oder Bahnhofshalle. Wir um 19 Uhr da gähnende Leere Wollten einen Tisch im Inneren war leider nicht möglich angeblich alles belegt. Die Wahrheit sieht aber gegen 20:30 Uhr völlig anders aus. Die Tische im Innenbereich (nur zur Hälfte belegt) sind fast ausschliesslich den Römern vorenthalten. Nur die Touris sitzen und frieren draussen. Wir sind davon überzeugt das dies kein Zufall sein kann.
Die überteuerten Pizzen (je 10 EUR) wurden schnell an den Tisch gebracht und sahen wirklich gut aus das war aber auch schon alles. Die Pizzen schmeckten völlig leer und fad. Auch das Tiramisu für 4,50 EUR hat nicht wirklich was mit einem traditionellen Dessert zu tun. Anstatt Mascarpone mit Marsala (nur das ist tatsächlich Original), gab es eine puddingähnliche Konsistens mit Amaretto. Der Service ist fix, keine Frage Aber das reicht leider noch lange nicht aus um mit den besten Pizzen in Rom gemessen zu werden. Zu viele Mankos runden den Abend eher negativ ab Und eine Frage bleibt auch Tage später noch immer offen: was bedeutet das ausgestreute Sägemehl auf den Toiletten? Rutschgefahr ?
Sorry Ihr deutlich zu hochgelobtes Al Marmi, ihr habt den Hype aufgesaugt wie ein Schwamm, nur dabei ist unsererachtens leider vieles auf der Strecke geblieben. Ihr wurdet vermutlich mal zurecht gelobt die ungemütlichste Pizzeria mit der besten und günstigsten Pizzen zu haben. Ihr habt es versäumt zu bemerken das andere Restaurants euch den Rang ablaufen.

Für mich war es die beste Pizza die ich jemals gegessen habe. Mein
Tipp kurz vor 19:00 Uhr kommen, der Ansturm von Gästen ist schlagartig
und man muss sonst in der Schlange auf einen Tisch warten (was sich
aber auf jeden Fall auch lohnt).

Italien erleben! Absolut genial! Fast nur einheimische! Keine Touristenfalle! Faire Preise! Gutes Essen!

I was worried. It had been 4 or 5 years since my last visit to Marmi and I’d been warned it was mostly tourists now by fellow Unilocalers. Would it still be the Best Pizza on Earth?
In short, yes. I wanted to marry this pizza — it was that good. My favorite US pizza tasted like turds on a plate in comparison. It was still cramped beyond belief, loud and crowded. The same guy was there making pizzas and the waiters were still slamming plates on the marble tables.
I’m sure that there are better «locals» pizza places in Rome. Places that loser tourists like me will never find. I’m ok with that — Marmi, will you marry me?

super restaurant, convivial et plats typiques biensur!

Grandiose Pizzaria in einer total unterschätzten Ecke! Der Laden von außen sehr unscheinbar, birgt eine Menge Leben und das allseits bekannte italienische Temperament. Man unterhält sich mit Händen und Füssen und hat Spaß, eine Menge Italiener und lokalansäßige treffen sich hier und die machen richtig Stimmung. Der Teig der Pizzen ist schön kross, knusprig und dünn, nicht so wie bei den ganzen Tourifängern, da trieft Sie vor schlechtem Öl und der Boden ist dick und bäh! Wir waren jetzt in einer Woche 4 mal da und konnten nur einmal dort einen Tisch ergattern, das Ding ist immer rammelvoll.
Einen Wehrmutstropfen muss man jedoch hinnehmen, wenn man abends hier essen möchte muss man Zeit mitbringen. Sollte man aber eigentlich haben, wenn man im Urlaub ist.
Wir zumindest haben es nicht bereut.

Gute, typische und traditionelle Pizzeria im Herz Trastevere-​Kiez.
Zu empfehlen sind selbstverständlich die Pizzen. Darüber hinaus auch das frittierte Stockfischfilet und die aufgebackene Crostini (Baguette-​Aufschnitt) im Butter-​Mozzarella-​Sardellenpaste-​Soße.
Der einzelne Nachteil ist aber die Wartezeit. Entweder bei der Reservierung oder ohne Reservierung muss man ab 20:00 Uhr viel Geduld Mitnehmen.

El dueño del B&B donde nos alojamos en Trastevere nos recomendó este sitio para cenar. También venía en mi guía de Lonely Planet con el nombre de ‘Panattoni’, que es lo que está escrito fuera y nos provocó bastante confusión. Lo de Ai Marmi sólo lo vimos escrito en los menús. Por si fuera poco, los romanos conocen esta pizzería con el amable nombre de ‘L’Obitorio’ (la morgue), debido a que las mesas y los mostradores son de mármol blanco.
El caso es que acabamos cenando aquí en nuestro primer día en la Ciudad Eterna y la verdad es que no pudimos empezar mejor nuestro viaje. Probamos dos entrantes, supplì al telefono (una especie de croqueta de arroz rellena de ricotta y frita) y fiore di zucca (calabacín relleno de mozzarella con anchoa y también frito), ambos increíbles. Pedimos también una pizza con jamón y champiñones cuya masa era sublime, de las mejores pizzas que he probado jamás. Para beber, Peroni y agua, ya que ni J. ni yo bebemos vino. Nos quedamos con las ganas de probar el tiramisú pero no teníamos más hambre y al final del viaje hubiésemos vuelto aquí si no fuera porque Roma tiene demasiados lugares que probar.
Aunque en Roma podéis comer pizzas deliciosas en casi cualquier parte, yo recomiendo totalmente cruzar el río hasta Trastevere para cenar en ‘la morgue’.

Wir waren schon anfang 2009 bei ai Marmi, aber leider fiel mir nie der Name ein damit ich hier drüber schreiben kann.
Wir sind zuerst da vorbei gelaufen und haben gesehen das ca. 200 Personen drinnen sitzen und genüsslich die Pizzen reinschoben. Wenn man rein kam sah man direkt den Holzofen vor sich, und die Fleißigen Arbeiter, die in Akkord Pizza herstellten. Jeder hatte né Aufgabe, von Teig abwiegen, witer zum Aufrollen bis zum belegen und dem der es Gebacken hat.
Da wir satt waren beschlossen wir uns gleich am nächsten Tag da reinzuplatzen.
Am nächsten Tag fanden wir zum Glück noch einen Tisch, der ganz hinten lag. Es war laut drinnen, was bei der fülle ja auch nicht anders zu erwarten war. Die Auswahl– in der Speisekarte war natürlich und selbstverständlich nicht so Groß. Wir bestellten uns Antipasti, und 3 Verschieden Pizzen, damit jeder von dem Anderen Probieren kann.
Die Pizzen waren schön dünn, und im ausklang zum Teig gut optimal belegt. Sie hat einfach Super geschmeckt.
Fazit: Wenn jemand wirklich leckere und authentische Pizza Essen möchte, ist er hier bestens aufgehoben. Wer aber Pizza wie bei Pizzahut möchte, kann sich ja bei McDreck der direkt nebenan ist ja stopfen.

O que cabe a nós brasileiros dizer sobre uma pizzaria italiana??? Somente elogiar e muito, as melhores pizzas do mundo estão na Italia, e a melhor da Italia está na Pizzeria «Ai Marmi», sabor incomparavel e inconfundível quem passa por Roma e não vai a essa pizzaria, não fez sua viagem completa.

Os romanos carinhosamente chamam essa pizzaria de «Obitório». Isso se deve a decoração interna, que além de ter parado na década de 70, é toda branca. Das paredes às mesas de mármore (que dão ao lugar o nome original ‘Ai Marmi’), passando pela camisa dos garçons tudo é branco meio hospitalar. Mas se a décor não soa nada apetitosa a comida é excelente. Aconselho a começar com ‘i fritti’ antipastos romanos para se comer antes da pizza. Todos são muito bons, meu preferido é o ‘Fiori di Zuccha’ (flor de zucchine empanada e frita) e alguns, como o filetto di baccalà (filé de bacalhau empanado e frito) são quase uma refeição, então se pode dividir com outra pessoa. Reserve espaço para a pizza, que é a especialidade da casa. Massa fina e crocante, todas as coberturas são ótimas (e sim, tradicionalmente romanas) e se pode escolher qualquer uma, de olho fechado. Se ainda sobrar apetite eles também servem sobremesas, mas acho que não é o caso. O vinho da casa (como quase em todo restaurante italiano na Itália) é uma boa pedida para acompanhar o banquete. O preço é super camarada e os garçons são old school, o que me leva a crer que eles não falam outra língua além do italiano.
O único ponto negativo, é que o lugar está sempre lotado. Chegue cedo ou se prepare para uma longa espera na fila. Mas definitivamente cada pedaço de pizza vale a espera. E não preciso dizer, que ao ir lá, nada de dieta em mente.

wahrscheinlich würde jeder normale tourist an dieser pizzeria vorbei gehen, da diese eher wie eine halle anmutet. ist man aber erst einmal drin, dann erlebt man die italianita total. für viele, auch für mich, die beste pizza der stadt.
