G. Bar/Aka get hammered bar is a sweet place to let loose in the middle of Rome. Our friends sometimes devoted entire nights to the place depending on the crowd that showed up. With a constant flow of study abroad students from(John Cabot, John Cabot, and also, John Cabot) it was easy to get caught up. A lot of American college ratchets here and the drinks are just strong enough to make you cringe. But, the music is always good, and there is always a packed atmosphere of kids moving through to grab more drinks that they don’t need. If you go on Tuesdays for tacos that is my #1 recommendation, otherwise get there around 10 or 11 and you will be surprised with the crowd that pours out into the streets. My favorite part about it is the fact of it being in the heart of trastevere where bars and food stops are abundant. Max, the owner is a sweet guy and should be friended on snapchat immediately.

Overall a fun gimmicky, no frills bar packed with American college kids – if that’s your scene, you will love g bar. This place is filled with study abroad students and/or students from the area that go to neighboring schools(John Cabot, etc.) I went on a Saturday night for a spring break /Semana Santa trip with a group of girls. It was empty at 10:30 but pretty packed by 11. I split the Saturday deal with a friend, which was our choice of two beers and two drinks, two shots and two drinks, or two beers and two shots for ten euros. We ordered two gin and tonics and a vodka and tequila shot. The gin was not poured generously, as there was about 1 and a half shots put into a glass already stuffed with a lot of ice. The bartender was a bit careless and when she pushed my shot towards me, she spilled a substantial amount of it. This is a good bar for college students and is pretty reasonably priced. There’s colored lighting and a small dj booth overlooking the bar so it has a nice atmosphere. Typical American college bar.

Happen to stumble upon this place while walking around the Trastevere area and I can say that this place. Is jumping especially with American students. Now this place is really small, but they do have cheap, good, and strong drinks. They also have a DJ spinning all the good and current hits and a downstairs lounge area. This bar is basically a slice of America right in Rome and I have to add that the people are really nice here.

G.D.J. Bar, better known as G Bar, could be anything from a dream to your worst nightmare — it really depends on the night. It’s located right in the center of Trastevere, which makes it a super convenient meeting spot before any late night adventure and also an almost unavoidable passing on most nights out in the area. So, here’s the good and bad of the place: If you want to get into the nightlife of Rome as an English-speaking foreigner, this place is probably your best start. The regular attendees and bartenders also work with other clubs, so they usually can get you connected in those spots as well. Even showing up on a random evening, you’re likely to get a wristband strapped on your wrist to get party bus access to some other event. Many of the other companies that cater to study abroad kids(Bus 2 Alps, Euroadventures, VJ Events) also tend to have people show up to promote. So overall, if you want to be «in the know» about what clubs are going to be full that night, this is where you pre-game. They’ve also got drink specials galore, so you can get cheap shots. Then, there’s the bad … It’s an American bar. So, amidst your Roman travels, you probably don’t want to spend most of your time in a place that isn’t very … Italian. The place is also extremely tiny, which means on crowded nights you are going to have to shove your way to get to the front. It also tends to get full of obnoxious study abroad kids during the beginning of the semesters. There are plenty of better bars, with cheaper and nicer drinks, right across the street. At least when you’re a traveler, it’s the type of place that winds up being the popular table in high school. Half the time it felt like you could make a Mean Girls style map of where certain groups were sitting(although everyone does mingle to say their hellos), and the other half of the time it was a massive crowd of drunken nonsense. SIDENOTE, the wall across from G-Bar is full of names past visitors have carved into the wall. Make your mark, it’s basically tradition of the JCU(John Cabot University) students.

G.D.J. Bar, often called G. Bar, is a popular hang out for English-speaking foreigners and students at John Cabot University. Every weekend, which starts on Thursday, there are throngs of drunk 20-somethings littering the street with their mini skirts and d-bag cologne. The actual bar is small and packed; at least 1 stranger’s butt cheek is touching you at a time. Going inside is like crowd surfing. There’s a DJ inside on a platform that plays remixed hip-hop and takes song requests. Prices are affordable and there are certain deals for students; on Thursdays shots cost € 1. I’ve had a good margarita here, which was served in an actual glass. Usually, people are given plastic cups so they can sip or chug their drinks while they socialize outside. The bartenders are really nice and don’t fool around making measly or weak drinks. I would like this place a lot more if it bumped up the«class.» What G-Bar has going for them is great; their low prices and music genre make loyal customers and attract a certain college-age demographic. I don’t come by here unless it’s by chance and I do spend time talking outside.
