Cleary we all have varying impressions of this restaurant. being in Italy in april/may 2015 my friend and I went to try a michelin star restaurant and I found this one on TripAdvisor. Funny thing. I read some of the negative reviews of the restaurant that mentioned the bad décor but i didn’t tell my friend. The moment we stepped foot into this place my friend immediately noted the décor and commented that it appeared like a something that a small eastern european establishment would do had they believed that a strict black and white décor was what appeared«modern». the restaurant has no windows and if i recall correctly the walls were entirely black or entirely white and the roof was entirely black and or white. the table clothes were black and there was a single dead black rose perched on the table. it was the strangest experience. almost as if it were a joke. the waiters had a weird dynamic with the junior ones clearly confused most of the time. They also were wearing very ill fitting suits that were much too big additionally the only thing that would be said to us when they checked on our dishes would be «is good.» with a big smile said as if it were a statement. so this is all to set the back drop to this place. the food isn’t notable yet i recall it being good enough-but definitely was very rich and salty for my Asian-Canadian palette. but the décor, the service, the visual appearance of the wait staff all bears to mind a stanley kubrick movie where the anti-hero is dining in some surreal twilight zone setting just before he’s getting ready to engage in some ultra violence. typing this review makes me recall the experience and laugh again. if only it wasn’t a $ 200 – 250 euro per person laugh.

I am seriously wondering how a person can complain about this restaurant. It was just absolutely spectacular and was one of the top food experiences I’ve ever had(even comparing to other Michelin restaurants). So let’s break this down nice and proper: THEVIBES The room is small, modern, romantic, dimly lit with lamps overhanging many tables. Walls are lined with various wine glasses and it looks very interesting. THESERVICE Impeccable throughout, we had the chefs tasting menu and wine pairings. The sommelier did an excellent job with wine selections. Not only were the staff very attentive, they were nice, spoke great English and explained every item brought to the table in a great amount of detail. THECOURSES, All prepared by master chef, Ricardo. If you are too lazy to read, just know, they are all phenomenal. — Watermelon with Negori was a delicious starter — Caprese reengineered. Very interesting deviation of the classic dish, tomato paste was extracted. — Olive macaroon made with fresh olives was unique and a great savory transition. — Egg with carbonara and topped with Parmesan. Seems like you always get an egg at a Michelin restaurant, this was no exception. — Ox-tail with pine nuts and celery jelly. This dish was a bold one, paired with a heavy red wine. Best ox-tail I’ve had thus far. No bones either, that tends to be the most annoying part about ox tails — Raginelle pasta with duck ragou, mascarpone and red wine reduction. Another transitional dish in my view, a little lighter and a great segway into the next course. — Quail leg and breast stuffed with Italian Salumi. Such a great idea, seriously. I might have to borrow this one and make at home. — a few more courses followed, i was so full and it was all spectacular. Enough said.

I had the pleasure of eating here twice on a recent trip to Rome. If you are looking for a fine dining experience in a city with a lot of great food, this is one of the best places I’ve been to in the entire world. The food is expertly executed while really fun and playful at the same time. A culinary roller coaster of the best variety. And the front of house staff is equally up to the task of providing a great experience — from wine recommendations, to presentation, and attention to the details. Absolutely worth it!
