Last summer(2010) was my first trip to Italy. It was so hot and humid I could barely breath. But Italy is nothing less that spectacular either way. Anyway, my friend took me here for lunch. I was still hung over from drinking too much wine the night before but we were very hungry. We ordered cool, crisp white wine to cure the hang over and the heat. He ordered for us and to my surprise, 2 different appetizers appeared. One was a light and flaky dough that had puffed up in the oven. When it was cut open, warm gooey cheese oozed out of that beautiful pastry. The second was my favorite thing. Probably one of the best things I’ve ever eaten and dream about. Focaccia di Recco. Paper thin dough filled with beautiful stracchino cheese that is not skimped on, baked in a very high heat oven until the cheese is bubbling and the dough is crispy. It’s PERFECTION! I could eat this for the rest of my life easily. And as I hear it, Vittorio’s is the place to get this devine creation. Make sure you order it and you will not be disappointed. We also had beautiful pastas with amazing sauces. One of which was a walnut sauce. Really delicious! I really hope you have the chance to visit this restaurant. It’s very much what I think an Italian restaurant that’s been around for several hundred years should be like. The inside dotted with old and new furnishings and the food… YUM!
