Directed here by locals and recommended to try Ravenna specialties, piadina(flat bread) with salami and other meats and the capaletti al ragu(meat sauce). The capaletti is a cheese filled pasta. A convivial atmosphere. Ravenna is beautiful and this restaurant represents well.

We decided to eat at Ca’ de Ven for lunch and had the following: — Prosciutto di Parma with Granda and Balsmic vinegar in a salad — Grilled Vegetables — Mushrooms, tomatoes, zucchini, endive, eggplant /Verdure grigliate e crudo — Grilled Octopus with Fava bean purée /Polipo grigliato — Cappelleti with Ragu /Cappelletti al ragu This restaurant has a beautiful and rustic charm just like the city of Ravenna. The food was fabulous. Ravenna was a quieter town than most any of the cities that we visited in Italy and the experience was most memorable.

Wandering aimlessly through Ravenna, we asked after a lunch spot when we stopped for a coffee break, and this was a few doors down. I was struck by how large and… stylized? the dining room was, and how frantic the atmosphere seemed. Seemed so contrary to stereotypical Italian dining, but we’d grown hungry, and how bad could it be? We could feel spunk in the air, after all… maybe they do it differently in the city??? The food was pretty decent. I might just say A-OK, based on my offerings. But my friends, who somehow manage to have the best instincts when it comes to these things, went with the tasting menu. I thought it’d be the tourist-trappingest thing to select, but each course(and its accompanying wine) were pretty tasty(they’re good people and they share tastes… partly, I assume, so we’ll appreciate their ordering excellence… ;) If you’ve got the skinny on a more«authentic» spot in Ravenna, then by all means go there instead. If you’re like us, hungrily scanning Unilocal to see what looks good nearby, you’ve found it.(And don’t be afraid to go for the tasting menu.)
