My previous experiences eating Arancine in Italian-American establishments in Brooklyn were just ok. I was not dying to eat another Arancine. I thought maybe I just didn’t get it. I’ve since seen the light on a recent trip to Palermo. Ke Palle, just past the Opera House was very very very delicious and super satisfying, My favorite was by far the Porcini stuffed Arancine. A must try if you’re ever in Palermo. Also, one is plenty for a satisfying lunch and they are all about 2 or 3 Euro so how can you go wrong?

This is the first fast-food style restaurant dedicated to a Sicilian speciality: arancina. Arancina(little orange) is a rice ball normally filled with a mincemeat/tomato sauce/peas mix, then deep fried. Ke Palle originally offers dozens of different fillings, from curried chicken to radicchio-gorgonzola. The traditionalists will frown but I think it’s cool, plus, vegetarians can enjoy these arancine as well. The final product may not be like your grandmother’s home made stuff but it’s good. Please open one in Munich as well :-)
