Hotel Excelsior

The only nice thing about this hotel is the view and location. Pretty much everything in this hotel is old, used, or not working. The linens were horrible, you can compare the linens to the hospital ones. The TV was not working the first day we were there and when they fixed it they said the pay-​per-​view channels are not working and will not be working at the time of our stay. The hotel puts out zero effort to keep up with the times. The business center is average but when I asked the front desk to scan me some copies of documents to my email they said they didn’t know how to do that. The Wi-​Fi Internet is horrible, it does now work in certain areas such as the gym, restaurants and lobby. The room looks like it came out of 1985 movie with dark colored walls and outdated bathrooms. The mattresses are old and very uncomfortable. For the price of the room this hotel is not worth it. Even though it says it has four stars I would’ve rated two at the most. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, nor would I ever come back to it again.

This hotel has a lot of character and charm, but the best thing it has going for it is unbeatable views. It’s on a corner so views on one side are of Vesuvius (the «Tony Soprano view» from one of the episodes where he’s in Italy and drinks his coffee on the balcony of his hotel) and on the other side are great views of Ischia and the Castell del Ovo.
The décor is very elegant, with displays of antique silver tea and coffee services, historic maps, rich rugs, and polished mirrors. It reminds me of a grand hotel from an earlier era.
Our 5^th floor room had amazing views and was very well appointed, particularly the huge bathroom. The bathroom felt very modern and immaculately clean. Nice furniture in the room had a lot of antique charm.
Lovely turndown service including putting out little floor mats at each of our sides of the bed and general tidying up plus providing more towels. Complimentary breakfast was served on the rooftop, which is a beautiful space with amazing views. The rooftop garden (accessible by private elevator) is a calm, serene space with again, those amazing views, for quiet sunning, reading, or afternoon napping.
Breakfast was plentiful but not super satisfying to an American palate. Italians don’t eat much breakfast and I get the sense this is what they think hotel guests will want, but it was mostly a lot of rich cakes and sweet tortes and pastries.
Extremely helpful and knowledgeable English speaking desk staff. We had to leave the hotel at 3:30 a.m. to get to our flight and the desk man jumped right up and was so helpful and gracious.
Very safe, walkable neighborhood.

After traveling from California to Naples, it was a treat to check into such a nice hotel with such a beautiful view and great location. As previously mentioned the bartenders are fantastic. We were warned about the crime in Naples and you need to be serious about it. But back to hotel, the bed and room were big and the bathroom perfect. Staff was friendly.

Max is awesome, he’s the bartender at the hotel bar. He’s very friendly and makes really good fruit infused vodka that puts you to sleep when you can’t.
The room was nice and the area was safe.

Friendly, clean and conveniently located for what ever you need to do as a tourist. The ferry to Capri is almost walking distance, it’s about an your cab ride to Sorrento area. Very tourist safe area (although a bit of a ride from the airport).
The breakfast buffet is better than most hotels, but still not exactly where you’d go to for brunch if you were out picking between dedicated restaurants.
Rooms are great size with high ceilings, great decorations and large bathrooms. The closets are huge, it’s more like an apartment than a hotel room!
The real reason you’re here though is for the view. Def. upgrade to the ocean view as it’s a picture that will probably become your screen saver or Facebook profile pic!

This hotel is part of the luxury collection in SPG. I have SPG platinum, so I was able to check-​in early and use a suite upgrade to get one of the nicer suites.
If you get a room with seaside view, I highly recommend it. If you cannot get one of those rooms, I would recommend you go to a different hotel nearby that has better room rates.
The room itself is very spacious with nice views of the ocean! On a clear day you can make out Sorrento in the distance. The hotel has a roottop terrace with also very nice views.
You are paying for the luxury here, so if you are looking for a place to kick back and enjoy some good views this is it! It’s a short 10 – 15 min walk from the main plaza and there are a bunch of restaurants by the pier that you can try out. The boardwalk is really nice for running in the morning and is always full of people walking around. Good for a short stay in Naples.
