Alchimia

I ventured to Alchimia for dinner as a solo traveler on a Saturday night around 9:30 PM. About halfway on my walk there, it occurred to me that perhaps I should have made a reservation, but I went on anyway, on the chance that there would be a table available.
I’m glad I did!
The hostess spoke excellent English and translated almost the entire menu for me. I’m sure she would have translated the whole thing had I asked. I just made my choices once I heard something I couldn’t turn down!
I do not remember what my appetizer was called, though I’m sure the staff would know if you described it. It was a plate of delicious sulami, served with a slice of honeydew melon, almonds, pomegranate, and cranberries. The flavors work so very well together! Because I was dining alone, I had the whole thing to myself, but there’s plenty to share for two diners.
My main course was an Argentinian filet with porcini mushrooms, cooked rare. Alongside of the steak, I ordered the grilled vegetables. I had almost filled up on the appetizer, so I only had about ¹⁄₃ of the steak and vegetables. (Wanted to save room for dessert!) The steak was a hearty portion – probably 10 ounces? – and the mushroom sauce on it was to die for: rich gravy, perfectly cooked porcini, just the right amount of roux. The grilled vegetables were simple: zucchini, artichoke hearts, red bell pepper, and some sort of sweet thing, possibly mango slices? I dressed mine with a bit of the olive oil and fresh black pepper that the hostess brought to my table. My hostess kindly packaged the rest for me to bring back home. I’ll get to have that deliciousness again tonight!
I ended the meal with tiramisu and a cup of the wonderful Italian way of coffee. It was just sweet enough to be perfect. The custard portion was smooth, creamy, cold, and the cookie part had enough crunch to contrast well with the custard.
I enjoyed the meal with a bottle of St. Paul’s Luzia Blauburgender Pinot Nero 2011. It was on the cheaper side of the wine menu, but still an excellent choice.
The ambiance of Alchimia is warm, inviting, well-​decorated. Leather couches and armchairs provide excellent spots for apertivo (Think happy hour, only with snacks available buffet style from around 7−9PM in many Milanese restaurants) gathering and socializing. There’s a bar as well. Lots of dark colors, soft lighting, and candles at each table. Staff was friendly, attentive, and thankfully overly accommodating to me as a complete non-​Italian speaker. The price point isn’t one for every night out, unless you’re only visiting for apertivo. The meal I described was € 71.50, which is about $ 100 US. Of course there are ways to save a little here and there… a less expensive steak (the one I ordered was € 30) skip the appetizer, or cheaper wine. Honestly, I’m sure the apertivo at Achimia would have the same quality as the restaurant menu. That would be a great way to try their offerings without breaking the bank.

Very nice place. Amazing ambiance if you are here for dinner and not the apertivo (which also looks good) we are a sit down and relax type of couple. The steaks are amazing and i highly recommend the one with a truffle sauce. Highly recommend from American to the rest of the world.
