I only chose this place because it’s easier and cheaper to visit Venice centre from this city. Not much to see or do. Here is a lot of refugees and foreigners roaming around and screaming in the evening/morning especially in the parks close to the station. There was polices often at the station but somehow nobody doesn’t care about refugees who scream to women in the park. I was not afraid but we didn’t find it very comfortable or nice. Me and my friends had roadtrip in Italy and we didn’t find it very comfortable because those refugee guys were screaming and whistling to us when we tried to walk through the park to the station. Luckily we were not alone walking there. We decided to avoid the park and we didn’t walk anymore to the park near the station. If I had a little sister I would not bring her here because of those screaming refugees. They were often hanging there and not screaming to us all the time but some of them did few times. I think they didn’t get into culture yet. There is many hotels and tourists because some tourists want to have a cheaper accommodations for visiting Venice city from Mestre. This could be a good solution for budget travellers but it’s not possible to find a similar atmosphere in Mestre than Venice has. Venice is unique and Mestre is more like typical Italian old town but now with refugees and Asians around. I notice Italians didn’t go anymore to the same park who know if in the past they did. I feel things are changing in Europe somehow. Somehow accommodations in Venice centre are nowadays very expensive almost like 200 € night otherwise we would stay there. We hope somebody will open new cheaper accommodation also in Venice someday. This could be a good town but needs a lot of renovation and much more things to do first. Good things in Mestre: there is Ovs shop, few Chinese bag/clothes shops, few tourists shops. I found one Chinese tourist shop near the station and near hotels but out of the station. Woman working at the shop says she sell real Murano jewellery and ask 30 € but she doesn’t sell any real Murano! woman lied she said she sell real Murano and she has big text«Murano»! I notice I found exactly same jewellery from Venice centre only cost 1 – 3 € and here in Mestre they sell those same fake Murano jewellery 30 €! This is incredible! I hope tourists know what they buy otherwise those sneaky people get a lot of more from them by selling fakes! if you read this now you know it. You can only buy real Murano from Murano’s shops. Mostly those shops are located near San Marco Venice centre. Don’t know why but here is allowed to lie that fake glass jewellery is real Murano when it is not. You can also buy cheaper glass jewellery 1 – 3 € without Murano’s logo. It was not easy to find good food or Italian icecream here. The city is full of Asian and Indian fastfood. Gypsies and drug users were hanging near the parks but they were more friendly than those I mention before like sneaky shop keeper/worker selling expensive fakes and pretending all is real. I found here good coffeeshop with cheap cake slices the name was something like Partenopea it was good maybe best thing in this city. The city is full of Asian people and they has restaurants and shops there it is ok but I sense I miss the Italian spirit is not in this city this is more like foreigner’s town that Italians left behind or that’s just my feeling. The city could have more Italian spirit by Italian restaurants and all maybe they will open these someday or otherwise this will be just foreigners town.

We stayed in Mestre Italy because it was cheap and convenient to Venice. The downtown area was safe and inviting. Nightly socials in the many town piazzas were nice. Stay in Mestre when visiting Venice Italy to stay on your budget! PS either speak italian or get a translator app like we used…

The City of Mestre sponsors events throughout the year including free outdoor concerts in the city center. When visiting Venice, you can stay near Mestre for a fraction of the cost of downtown Venice and enjoy a more relaxed environment with locals. Here is just one of the sites, one night
