This was our last hotel that was part of our Contiki Italian Espresso tour. The hotel is located in Mestre which is outside of Venice. The elevators were large enough to accommodate 3 people plus luggage! However, it was padded with carpet but I guess that’s to help with noise. Our room was quite comfortable. It was lush in the sense that can only be described as outdated luxury. It needed some modern touches but for the most part the wooden décor added to a rich feel. Unfortunately, you can’t eat nor drink in the room. The number of outlets was lacking but at least there were a few mirrors in the room that could be utilized. The safe was locked to someone’s code so I tried calling the concierge to see if this could be remedied, however the line was always busy so I stopped trying after a while. The bathroom had this weird shamrock tile motif to it. This was the only room in which the bidet sat opposite the toilet. Very strange if you ask me. All the other rooms we had been in had a bidet adjacent to it. There was a fridge but it was one of those bar/sensor fridges that will charge you just for browsing. The beds were comfortable and the room didn’t smell like smoke for once. The TV was a regular tube TV hung up high in the wall. The keys to the rooms were the non-electronic kind that came with a gigantic and heavy keychain. Our tour manager suggested we leave the key with the front desk if we didn’t want to carry it around. I ended up putting it in my purse anyway. Breakfast was served in the dining room. This was also set up buffet style but they didn’t have an espresso dispensing machine like the other hotels. Instead, they had servers who asked if you wanted hot coffee or tea. This was nice but I would have preferred a cappuccino to start my mornings. It was basic fare, no scrambled eggs but instead they served hard boiled eggs, a selection of cereals, croissants, yogurt, and cold cuts. They had some blood orange juice which was nice. For the most part, it was comfortable and the lobby was really nice. The wifi was 5 euro for 24 hours. They need to get with the times and offer free wifi to the guests. Luckily, the hotel is a quick cab or shuttle to the Venice Marco Polo Airport(10 km).

This hotel was part of my tour package, so I don’t know how much it is per night nor did I have a choice of hotel in Venice. This hotel is actually outside of Venice, and between a bus ride and a boat ride, it took a bit over an hour to get from St. Mark’s square and our hotel. The hotel is nice, definitely due for a remodeling, since it seems to be stuck in the 60s/70s. There is a lot of wood furniture inside the rooms, the bathroom was decent sized, and there was a fridge available. There were notes stating that you can’t eat in the room, can’t wash clothes in the room and not to put any wet items on the wooden armoire and desk. The TV was a small tube tv that was hanging up on the wall. The room was not too small for two twin beds(and for being in Europe). There is wifi, but it will cost you 5 Euro for 24 hours in the lobby and 18 Euro to use in your room. It seems to be a matter of you paying the lobby for the code. Breakfast was included with our room, however, I don’t know if that’s part of the normal package. It was basic, hardboiled eggs, croissants, cereal, yogurt. Nothing special.
