Antico Borgo di Barilari Valter

We just stumbled across this place and chose to eat there. It was empty so we were a little skeptical, and it stayed empty with only one other couple our whole dinner. The service was mediocre and our waiter didn’t seem too happy that we didn’t speak Italian. My husband ordered the Lasagne and I ordered just a small salad because I thought I wasn’t that hungry. After I tried just a bite of my husbands lasagne I ordered my own. This was THE BEST lasagne I’ve had in my life… I’m already dreaming about it!!! It was so good!!! They had mostly fish on the menu so I can’t speak for anything else besides this one dish, but it was good. I can sit through bad service for good food.

The service here is incredibly slow, even by Italian standards and non-​Italians are treated like second class citizens. We sat down and waited for about 30 minutes to order, after rudely being told to wait when we asked if we could order. Then we waited for 30 minutes for our appetizer and 30 after finishing that for our pasta dishes. So glad we didn’t order a second course. All along, people speaking Italian next to us were getting served at a much faster rate. Plus, the food was pretty mediocre. Stuffed mussels were uninteresting, clams in my pasta were tiny and sandy, and the sauce for the spaghetti and shrimp dish was not very flavorful. Would not recommend.

We were looking for a place to eat near our B&B and found this charming place. Ordered two specials of the day: linguine with «Batti Batti» and «some kind of fish from the Ligurian coast». Lol – his exact words!
Bati Bati is a crustacean, like a cross between a lobster and a large shrimp. Tossed with a light tomato sauce it was so delicious. My hubby had the fish – a white local fish – baked and served with potatoes cooked with capers, olives and tomatoes, also a winner.
I also ordered red table wine, better quality than what you’d get in the States. Two entrees and two beer/​wine came out to under € 50. I highly recommend this place.

We arrived in Levanto at 9pm, after 22 hours of travel and our fantastic host at our guesthouse directed us to Antico Borgo, one of the only restaurants open late. It was exactly what we needed. The place is very casual and the menu is small, consisting mostly of simple Ligurian specialities. We ordered fresh fried prawns for an appetizer and 2 fabulous pastas. The «green pasta with lobster», was was fresh and buttery and included whole pieces of fresh lobster still in its shell; the herb and cheese ravioli with «salsa di noci» a slightly sweet walnut pesto was full-​flavored and comforting. A liter of house white wine was 10 € and worth every penny. Limoncino for dessert was bright and well balanced. A good value and good service. Would recommend to any casual diner or tired traveller.
