Impressed by this new burger joint in the heart of the San Lorenzo district, Polpa Burger is in a ‘trattoria’ style where you order your meat, ingredients (which you can personalize) and sides ‘à la carte’. The design itself is quite fresh and contemporary, blackboards with the specials and an order before sort of format. The mere fact that there was air-​conditioning and burgers was enough to get me there for a visit.
Drinks and fries/​chips are ordered on the side.
I ordered the regular burger with ‘orto’ (garden in Italian) fillings which was a big portion and covered in Asiago cheese, lightly shredded which was quite nice. You add your own condiments (like mayo and ketchup). The big factor (besides the fact that the burgers are fantastic — great bread!) is that they make their own chips and french fries which are utterly fantastic, perfectly crispy. Their selection of drinks isn’t vast but I appreciate the fact that they have beer, soda, water, the price of wine is overpriced but I would skip that anyhow with burgers.
Highly recommend, it’s nice to have a good place to eat in piazza del mercato centrale besides Trattoria Mario and the mercato centrale :), plus did I mention air-​conditioning?
