Situated in the heart of Florence, Palazzo Strozzi is one of the finest examples of Renaissance domestic architecture. It is a prestigious historical residence that belonged to the Strozzi family for many centuries.

Palazzo Strozzi is one of teh few museums in Florence that I still get excited about visit(kidding). One of the reasons I give them such high marks is because they are super active in engaging people who might not be experts in art(like me) via interactive exhibits or different intiatives such as aperitivo nights, or slow art and parliamo d’arte. I normally really like all of their exhibits and if that wasn’t enough they have a pretty nice inner courtyard area where they play live music every thursday in the summer. They also have a caffe inside the courtyard as well as a separate area called Strozzina where you can often check out other exhibits for free. Keep an eye out for two for one deals after a certain hour, and they have plenty of activities for families and kids which is nice. Bravo to them for making art exciting in 2013!

I am a big fan of Palazzo Strozzi because it is one of the most innovative arts venues in the city. It holds rotating temporary exhibits on the upper floor(for about 4 months at a time) and slightly shorter, related contemporary art exhibits in the basement. The courtyard sometimes is the location of contemporary installations or events. On Thursday night they’re open late, and the contemporary section is free to enter. The bar in the courtyard is pricey, but it’s free to sit on the benches and use the free wifi(not advertised, but it’s there). Check their website for events — one thursday a month there are free activities in the courtyard. Entry tickets are 10 euros full price but there are many discounts available. The best discount is for Foursquare users — check in and bring a friend for free! Nota bene: closed in August.
