I recently joined Olympus Club and left Virgin Active at Firenze Rovezzano. It’s a less expensive club, and not quite as nice, but the courses are really good. There are more choreographic and challenging classes than at all the other gyms in Florence, which is what motivated my choice.
Membership levels are flexible, so if you know what you want (ie. pool or not, certain types of classes, access times etc), you can get a price that is tailored to your exact needs. There are periodic specials that keep the prices down even more.
The gym area itself tends on the stinky and humid, and the bathrooms are clean but again very humid, however the atmosphere and people are great!
