Excellent Neopolitan-style pizza. Lots of seating upstairs with table service. Highly recommend.

Pizza is just OK, not great. Pizza was better elsewhere. This market place restaurant is more about volume sales, than about quality food. If you are looking for a quick bite, and do not care much about quality then you will not mind eating here.

La Pizzeria Sud is located on the first floor of Mercato Centrale. The ground floor contains a farmers market of meats, cheeses, produce, pasta, and other assorted goods. The floor above it, referred to as the 1st floor by European standards, contains food stalls and a cooking school. It’s similar to places such as the 4th street market, the Packing District, and Union Market in Southern California. The pizza here is without a doubt the best pizza I have ever tried! It’s a Neapolitan pizza that is cooked in one of the two wood burning brick ovens. Neapolitan style pizzas have a thin and soft crust and are cooked at very high temperatures, around 900 degrees. The crust is soft and kind of elastic. It tasted incredible and reminds me of freshly prepared Afghani flat bread. Everything is prepared in front of the customers. I was amazed at how fast the pizzas were made from start to finish. By the time I ordered, the pizza was ready in about 5 minutes. The customer has a choice of 4 pizzas to choose from: Marinara — 8 euros — tomato sauce and olive oil Margherita — 8 euros — tomato sauce, sliced fresh mozzarella, and fresh basil Capri — 9.50 euros — basically a margherita pizza, but after it’s cooked, it’s topped with tomatoes, sliced mozzarella, fresh basil, and olive oil Napoli — 9.50 euros — a margherita pizza with anchovies added on after the pizza has cooked I was amazed at how fresh the ingredients were as well. Everything tasted incredible. Without a doubt this was the best pizza I tried. I had been extremely disappointed with pizza in Italy on my last visit, but now I see what real quality is. Ordering is simple. Simply tell the cashier what kind of pizza you want and then move to the side and wait till your number is called. It’s extremely efficient and fast. The cashier understood perfect English and this place accepts credit cards as do all the places at the Mercato Centrale.
