I love this place and am also still flaming mad at it… …For the mad: I was hangry, coming from a long performance just next door ending around half past nine, with nary a lunch to remember. While it was no problem being seated amidst an after theatre slam, it took at least 30 minutes to get the wine menu and a bread basket. Having a server arrive was a completely different level of request. Larger tables, sat after us, being served first is a no-no in my book! Shouldn’t they be prepared for this kind of rush and have some organization intact? …For the love: So beautifully decorated with a cozy mezzanine loft and more of a bistro feel on the ground floor. It’s a restaurant that I would glady take as a European pied a terre. Open late with an extensive wine list at multiple price points and many nooks and crannys of both large and intimate tables. Perfect for bringing your big Italian-American family here, or dine avec deux on honeymoon. …For the food: PRIMO — The meal started with smoked salomn wrapped around perfectly ripe peaches in a sweet vingar and EVOO glaze. Would love to repeat at home for a garden party. SECONDO — Risotto, which must be done for two everywhere in Italy, was described as ‘blueberry and candied lemon with ham.’ It came as more of a blackberry oatmeal and I could have done without — or wished we only had one to sample, not two. Without question, this should be skipped. PRIMIPIATTI — the suckling pig. Amazing and the highlight of the meal. Served with rocket salad, it came ample enough to share.
