Great spot for dinner in Certaldo. They serve traditional Tuscan fare, even tripe if you’re feeling daring. I ordered the gnocchi al ragu, which was the best gnocchi I have ever tasted. Freshly made in house, in a simple but delicious meaty ragu, served with parmaggiano on the side. Everyone at the meal was stealing bites of my dish, would definitely recommend the gnocchi! It is also noteable that this restaurant is very affordable, I believe my gnocchi was only € 7 or € 8. Great prices for the quality. If you want to sit inside, make sure to reserve but it is also an experience eating out on the cobblestone. My partner ordered the spaghetti with anchovies, which was also fantastic. Make sure to get a half liter or two of the Chianti! You can’t beat € 5 for a half liter of Tuscan vino

The farmhouse we stayed at in San Gimignano recommended this place on our anniversary. We were looking for something low key and authentic. All I can say is WOW. The food was amazing. Best food we ate the entire time we were in Italy. I had a delicious homemade pasta dish that I’ve been trying and failing to duplicate here. My husband who never eats pasta had a spaghetti with anchovies dish that he devoured in minutes. The atmosphere is super casual and the fun part is you get to write your name and a message on the wall. So if you look high up on the wall near the bathroom you’ll see my husband’s anniversary message. It’s a place I can’t wait to visit again in the future!

Italienische Gastlichkeit in den Mauern Certaldos. Wir verzehrten nur eine Bruscetta, die aber richtig lecker war. Pluspunkt: Es gibt WiFi.

One of my favorite places to eat in Certaldo Alto. This tiny little trattoria is open all day and run by a darling couple from Naples. Their specialty is the fried coccoli, fried bread dough balls, which you can order as «street food» or as a starter to your meal. Tuscans usually serve the coccoli with stracchino cheese, a spreadable sort of cream cheese, and prosciutto or mixed salumi. I always order pasta. It come served in its own little skillet and is large portion. I personally usually get the one with garlic, olive oil and bacon. Their Tuscan soups are perfect too, rich and thick bread based soups, the ribolitta and tomato based pappa al pomodoro are like any Tuscan mamma would make. In summer try the Tuscan bread salad, panzanella, like a couscous, the bread is crumbled into tiny grains and then tomatoes, red onions(the city of certaldo is famous for their onions) and cucumber flavor the salad. Main course are light– simple sausage and beans is always my favorite. My husband likes the fried chicken pieces with the spicy dipping sauce. BUT– save room for dessert– her Tiramisu is one of the best i have ever had!
