Piazza Vecchia

Bergamo es ese tipo de ciudades que no te esperas nada y, de repente, te maravilla todo aquello que ves y visitas. Esta plaza es un ejemplo de arte, de compenetración medieval, la Italia más toscana cerca de los Alpes. Mires por donde mires en la plaza, te va a gustar.

On est obligés de passer par là, une place vraiment sympa avec des cafés, restaurants. L’église juste à côté est à visitée, puis c’est agréable de se balader dans les petites rues commerçantes de la ville

Piazza Vecchia is a beautiful ancient space and in January was stunning to see with snow capped mountains visible through the corner of the square, also I’m sure far quieter than later in the year.
There is a fascinating Solar calender beneath the Palazzo Della Ragione, at noon when the sun is shining, a hole in a metal disk points to an engraved calender in marble on the floor showing what day it is.
One warning if eating or drinking at any of the restaurants and bars outside is beware of the rather aggressive pigeons, which pounce on the least movement away from tables and nearly knocked empty glasses and dishes flying in their greed for any scraps.

Piazza Vecchia e’ la parte più conosciuta e frequentata di Bergamo Alta. In mezzo alla piazza si trova la fontana del Contarini. La piazza e’ circondata da edifici tra cui il Palazzo della Ragione, il Palazzo Nuovo sul lato opposto e la Torre Civica (detta il Campanone). In Piazza Vecchia si trova una delle sedi dell’Universita’ degli Studi di Bergamo, per cui la piazza e’ spesso frequentata da studenti, ma anche da gente locale e turisti.

Right in the middle of the old town is this beautiful little square, surrounded by medieval and Renaissance architecture. It’s quite busy with university students and people at the tables outside the bars and cafes around the edge. You can see the Palazzo della Ragione and its 12^th century portico on one side.
