Absolutely the worst museum I’ve ever been to. Yes, They have a lot of the history of wine in the museum, but they have choosen to ruin the original interior of the inside of the beautiful castle in order to make some horrible displays and interactive exhibits which has nothing to do with wine and it’s atory. 8 € for absolutely nothing. Just a tacky place.

Do not get me wrong… Barolo is a beautiful town, and the castle is breathtakingly beautiful. But the Wine Museum one finds on the inside is, in my opinion, a major miss. It seems to me that someone simply threw a great deal of money to make a modern museum of wine in an ancient castle without thinking of making it interesting. While you do get lots of information about the wine produced in this amazing area, I feel the presentation is just too overdone. It is really difficult to put into words except that they tried too hard. I have been twice now, both times with groups, and the feeling was mutual across the board. Everyone wanted to go in, expecting something wonderful… and everyone came out saying«meh. waste of time». That said, there is a wonderful terrace there with breathtaking views of the Langhe area, but then again, everywhere you look is full of breathtaking views. I would skip the museum here and have a seat in a local bar and just take it all in.

3.5 stars. We greatly enjoyed the museum for 8 euros each but had our hopes up that there would be lots of complimentary wine tasting at the end(apparently there used to be and this was one of the main draws for us). The museum still had a lot to offer though including: — actual furniture, books, etc. from the original family — amazing history going way back to BC of the discovery and history of wine — creative, fun displays of Adam and Eve, the changing of the seasons(you ride a bench/bike in a circle), and much more We really wished the wine were included(and not just a small piece of chocolate) but the tour was still worth it and now I want to read up on the history of wine!
