I recommend getting there early, the place gets crowded fast. The food is tasty, good size for sharing. Don’t forget to leave room for dessert; the cheesecake was fresh and delicious.

La Caverna del Mastro Birraio, or the Cave as Americans refer to it, is not what you expect to find when living in Sicily. «The Cave» is the correct description of the place as it feels like you are walking underground as you go inside. Every time that I visited this place, it was never empty, always bustling, crowded and loud. The waiters always seem happy to see Americans. My favorite waiter always told me that I wasn’t allowed to speak Italian while I was at the brewery because he wanted to practice his English. My friends and I had heard about this place via word of mouth. After celebrating Carnivale out in Acireale, we stopped here for a pint and a meal before heading home. At this microbrewery, you don’t just get a pint of beer; you get a jug equivalent to the size of a water cooler. There are beers for everyone from light to dark. Food wise, you will be taking a doggie bag home. I ordered the pork which turned out to be, pretty much, the entire calf of a pig. It was delicious. Other times that I had visited, I tried other menu choices, but nothing will beat that dish. A unique piece of this brewery is that you can go and grab your own peanuts from various barrels around the restaurant to have as your appetizer. The prices can’t be beaten, especially at a microbrewery. Visiting Sicily? Stop here for a taste of of the upcoming microbrewing culture.
