Glenview Hotel

I really cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Fantastic view, comfortable rooms, good bar, good restaurant and did I mention good bar?
All that being said though would only be enough for a four star review in my opinion. However the single biggest reason to visit here? The staff.
Without a doubt everyone we encountered could not do enough to make us feel comfortable. Not only that but they made it all so natural and genuine.
Really great job done to have staff as good as this.

A lovely hotel that’s fading in it’s glory.
This hotel should be lovely. It’s a little bit _​The Shining_​, with its long corridors and patterned carpets, but — fortunately — no rivers of blood pouring from the lifts.
Mould and peeling paint in the bathroom, and indifferent service keep it at a two, which is a shame. It really should be four stars.

I recently visited the Glenview hotel using a voucher I got on boards deals as a birthday present for my fiancé. Maybe I’m just being paranoid but does visiting a hotel on one of these deals make you less qualified for good service? I’m not sure but here’s my experience of 24 hours in the Glenview Hotel.
On arrival we were greeted by two very pleasant assistants at the check in desk who assigned us our room but forgot to mention when and where breakfast was. No matter I asked and we found out, so that was fine. We went down the hallway on the ground floor to our room to see a bottle of white wine (part of the deal) awaiting us… on a table… at room temperature. Now when I booked I was asked what colour wine I wanted but if I’d have known there was no fridge to cool the white wine in, I would have said red. Room temperature white wine is revolting. After a couple of minutes I noticed that there was also an odd smell in the room. It seems it had been recently painted and after about 10 minutes the smell became overpowering. Or maybe a previous guest poured their wine out on the floor as a protest. Down to reception, new room assigned on the 1^st floor, off we go with warm wine in tow hoping for a fridge this time. Unfortunately there was none but the room was bigger and less smelly.
After a few hours of relaxing and watching RTE 1 and 2 (the only channels available apart from strangely enough Sky Sports, why this and yet no BBC??) we decided to chance the Conservatory Bar for dinner. If the address doesn’t make it clear this place is in the middle of nowhere so you have to eat at the restaurants. Either that or bring a sandwich, in fact you might be better off. We took a seat and after a while the waitress took our order. After a while my fiancé noticed that a family of four that arrived after us had already been served. I found the waitress, complained (it was 30 mins at this point) and was told «it will be right there». The food arrived and at this point I was so hungry I was eyeballing the furniture so I ate it very quickly but on reflection later it was not very good. We both had burgers which were dry and over done and had a very strong taste of onion.
After that disappointing dinner we were eager to retire with some drinks to the Malton lounge where they have big comfy couches. The waitress had been missing for some time but she was spotted behind the bar hugging the barman. I awkwardly posed at the bar hoping she might take pity on me and let me get some more drinks when finally the bar manager (I assume) informed me my food would be free and took my drink order. Ok so it was crap but at least it was free. We went into the Malton Lounge and relaxed for awhile but this was rudely interrupted by another staff member telling us she had to hoover. At 10pm. on a Saturday… ARE YOU KIDDING? She wasn’t. We and about six other guests played musical chairs around the lounge for the next 20 mins giving each other increasingly amused looks.
Right so to bed, which thankfully was quite comfortable. The next morning we went to the restaurant for breakfast. «Sit anywhere you like» said the staff member on arrival as he then showed everyone else on arrival to their table… err right. «May I have some tea?» inquired my fiancé of staff member number 503. She never returned, which is a shame as it might have helped him wash down the cold breakfast. The receptionist can only thank her lucky stars she didn’t ask me «how was your stay?» as we left. This place is apparently a popular wedding venue too, there is no way I would ever part with thousands of euro to a hotel that can’t manage to get the small details right never mind bring you your food within 30 minutes.

Stayed in this hotel just a few days ago. We got few rooms including the penthouse suite (awesome, even had our own Christmas tree).
It was a GREAT experience. Extremely friendly staff, rooms up to scratch. The bar was open ’till 2am and even after we got some drinks through the room service. Nice smoking area and large enough leisure centre (pity that the outdoor jacuzzi is nearly always full of people ;)
Nice food (got some really tasty fillet medallions) and quite nice bar and restaurant. Easy and free parking.
Great view from almost every window and the large conservatory is a great place to hang out in the morning or late night.
Slightly on the pricey side, but you won’t regret it.

live near this hotel, and its always one of our favourites to visit. beautiful views. lovely gardens, delicious food and service is always excellent. WE actually go there to stay sometimes because they have a family room and the kids love it .we love the décor, the colours are so relaxing. good food in the bar too for lunch. well worth a visit .The sugar loaf walk is just behind it so make sure to climb it.

I have been in this hotel a few times for dinner. For people in Dublin you might think that this is very far away for just a Sunday lunch but now with the M50 you can get here very quickly, 20 minutes after leaving my house i was out in the wilds of Wicklow driving by the lovely trees and hills that make you feel totally refreshed just by looking at them.
The view from the restaurant window in this hotel does not disappoint at all and gives you something to gaze out at while you eat your lunch. The last time I was here was with my family and we were there for my dad’s birthday. It was a long lazy lunch that we were after and that is exactly what we got. Now having a bit of time in between courses can frustrate many an Irish diner including myself but if you’re in the mood for letting your food digest properly and having good chats while eating this is the perfect place for you. The room is comfortable and well laid out, the staff were very friendly and the food was tasty, even the vegetarian option was not just your normal penne with tomato sauce, they ventured to goats cheese tartlets with roasted vegetables… very impressive.
After your yummy lunch you can enjoy the drive back to Dublin while gazing at the lovely scenery around you, perfect!
