I love Annie Mays — it’s an institution of sorts in Skibbereen! Any time I go there I’m treated very well, and I’m always given a hearty and warm West Cork welcome. I’ve stayed in the B&B twice now, and on both occasions I remember thinking that I had just experienced the best hot’darn sleep I’d had in months! So, the beds are über, über comfy. Given that’s it’s a B&B, and cos that’s how I roll, I gotta mention the yummy breakfast. I opted for the salmon and poached eggs(the full irish is good here as well)…lovely! I was very happy with my order because 1) it was the shizzle 2) I was in West Cork and you have to eat fish when you are in Cork and 3) cos fish is the relatively healthy option and I can categorically say that my brain fired at a significantly quicker pace that day. I almost fell over when I saw the farmer’s market across the road. Granted, this may have been due to vertigo, brought on by how quickly my brain was firing(as a result of the healthy fish)*, but I think it had more to do with excitment at the sight of the cheese stall, and the smell of BBQ wafting across the street. The market is every Saturday(10am — 1 pm I think). So, if you go to Skibbereen(you should, it’s cute as hell and near to some of the most incredible and spectacular views of Ireland you’ll ever see), STAYHERE. Please and thank you Over and out. * valid scientific reasoning.
