This place is both Tip and Top. The quality of the produce they stock is really good. You pay for it, but it’s well worth it to get the real McCoy. The bread is lovely! We shop in here a lot. Tins of Ortiz Tuna fish, fresh veg, pasta, kalamata olives and a great range of cheeses.

Hands down, Michael Byrne’s FIne Foods is the best little place to get a bit of what’s organic and good in Dublin. Part green grocer, part health food shop, you’ll get a great selection of free range and organic fresh stuff(it was here I first encountered celeriac). On the shelves and packed to the rafters you’ll get celiac-friendly and gluten free pastas, bread mixes and more, plus lots of preserves, pickles and ready to eat goodies like olives and stuffed leaves. Once upon a time, like most of the independent shops in Sandymount, Fine Foods was short on space but not on stock. However in recent months the store has expanded, knocking through the back wall and creating a new bright deli space for more mouthwatering goodies. This being Sandymount, prices will reflect the neighbourhood, so don’t go wild unless you’ve got a pre-recession wad of cash to spend.

If you’re shopping for food for a special occasion, like lunch with the in-laws or a dinner-party gift, this little deli is the place. There’s a great selection of dips, chutneys, pickles and preserves, fancy cheeses and organic fruit and veg. The prices are way over the odds for the vegetables and fruit(think € 5 for a punnet of strawberries), but they make an effort to support local businesses and small food producers, which is admirable in this day and age. They have recently added a smoothie bar to the shop — great for a healthy saturday morning pick-me-up.

Filled with fruit and veg, jams and chutneys, a smoothie bar and even its very own cheesemonger, Michael Byrne makes for a lovely little delicatessen in Sandymount. I don’t mind it here. I’ve heard rumours it’s way too expensive and not worth the extra dosh, but as far as I can tell the prices seem to be pretty reasonable and the food is of good quality. And even if it wasn’t the D4 crew would still shop there cos it’s fashionable and exclusive and all.
