If you know Portlaoise you will know that it’s not exactly the best place in Ireland for good food but this place is a little gem!
Located on Main Street, Chocolate Brown was a welcome sight when it opened its doors a couple of years ago and has continued to be one of Portlaoise’s more reliable spots.
The staff are really friendly, the hot chocolate (which they have a great selection of) is really good and they have a nice little selection of paninis, wraps and sweet treats. Granted, the selection is small but the stuff is tasty and if you ask them to make something specific for you I’m sure they would. I had the ‘Oh So French’ panini which was salami, brie and gherkin and it really was very tasty!
A bonus for some friends of mine was that they also stock some tasty gluten-free biscuits– something that can be quite hard to come across fown around these parts.

This is my second visit to Chocolate Brown Portlaoise. First time they correctly made a Flat White (and knew what it was). This time they delivered a bowl full of dirty dishwater that barely passed for coffee, let alone a flat white. I spoke with that staff who claimed this was a flat white and what I wanted was a Latte. I directed them to Google and left. Bad service, bad coffee shop. I won’t be back and either will anyone else I know.

Really unprofessional place, they don’t know what they are doing! They can’t even make an iced coffee, I asked for an iced coffee and they said no we can’t do that we can’t put ice in a drink we can only make frappés, and I got a loyalty card where you get 1 drink free after you buy 10, I tried to use it with my «frappé» and she said no you can only use it on hot drinks? WHAT? Idiots. Not going here anymore. Oh, and the staff are so rude it’s unbelievable !
