Phoenix Café

Came by here on a beautiful day and opted to sit outside in the courtyard. Lots of dessert selections (many flourless); we chose the yogurt (citrus?) cake and the lemon curd cake.
The two cakes were both WONDERFUL; I’ve never had anything else here but I can definitely vouch for the fact that they do an amazing job with citrus + cake. The lemon curd cake had a generous amount of lemon curd cream so the extra cream was unnecessary.
Got a nonfat (skinny) cappuccino with my cake — the small size was more than enough! Yum!

The Phoenix Café is a wonderful place. I’ve been a regular for over four years now, first led there on foot through a frosty winter day by a discriminating woman of substance. Canteen-​style service on the ground floor, take your tray to the big airy room upstairs or outside to the cobbled courtyard, enjoy freshly prepared food with ingredients sourced from the adjacent kitchen garden. All main dishes come with three salads, expect to pay about € 10. Otherwise it’s cakes, biscuits, quiches, the ubiquitous panino (no that’s not a typo, it’s the singular). Only thing to steer clear of is the kids’ pizzas. The staff are friendly, helpful and kind — a couple of months ago I witnessed one of them search for and locate a missing child (up a tree). There is a playground very close by, so lots of buggy traffic. For larger parties, bring your own food and use the picnic tables, lawn and climbing trees on the other side to experience a graceful sojourn in a greener world, and much-​needed respite from the mean streets.
The crowd is typically adults accompanied by children, parties of smart joggers and whispering pairs of well-​maintained middle-​aged women.

Good food and bad service.
Is incredible how they don’t like to do a good service:
i) last time I did need to ask to 2 girls to warm my scone (that’s btw is amazing)
ii) today they refuse to serve us food because we arrived at 17:10 and café closes at 17:30.
If i was the manager of this place i would be embarassed with the staff.
However the cooker is awesome. It’s a pity!
