This is our third stay in Ireland and we think that we now are able to say that this seems to be one of the best pubs in Ireland. The food is delicious and the waiters are friendly. Many different kind of beers are available and the location is nice. Try the desserts! At our next holiday in Ireland we’ll come back again!

The Thatched Cottage is situated in the village of Ballycommon, which lies very near the village of Dromineer, a quaint tourist friendly village, which kisses Lough Derg. This may be the reason why you will find old pulpers, school desks, milk churns and cartwheels erected outside this bar and restaurant. It really is like a honey pot waiting to catch the fly. The ante is truly upped when you walk into this bar and restaurant. Gas lamps, rudders, portholes, model ships, bells and steering wheels decorate the wall, giving visitors a taste for the local love of sailing. I arrived for the carvery meal, and happily doled out ten euro for a large plate of pan-fried chicken, and an assortment of veg. Unfortunately the chicken was overdone, but the vegetables were wonderful, with the carrots being equally as smooth as the potatoes. I did not touch the roast potato as I was a little dubious about it’s taste, given it’s resemblance to something that had been deep fried. Aside from the food, the service was exemplary, with the waitress, a woman called«Bernie», being genuinely upbeat and friendly. The modern bathroom was slightly incongruous with the old style bar, which by the way, was thatched too! The bathroom was extremely clean though, and you could tell money wasn’t scrimped. Overall, I enjoyed the meal, and would like to come back to sample the restaurant menu. Wonderful stuff.
