I would honestly fly back from America simply to eat at this restaurant. The service was absolutely flawless and the food was superb. The Hawk of Pork was exquisite– that combined with the mashed and apple gravy cannot be beat! If FX Pub could bottle the apple gravy and produce it, I would die a happy man.

Meat lovers, that is your place =) I was expecting a more extensive steak menu but in the end I was OK with their 3 or 4 options. The roasted beef menu was just perfect. Jesus. I would preferred it well done but since it was roasted nothing they could do about it. I thought it was too small at first but when I finished I found myself satisfied. The place itself is really cool. Modern furniture and some painter exposition on the walls. I had no chance to check the exposition but I believe it was from a local artist. It wasn’t the first time I went to FX Buckley but whatever of their rest I go the experience is always good.

Tried this place a few weeks ago. We didn’t make a reservation because honestly we didn’t imagine it would be as busy as it was. The place is separated into 2 areas– a pub downstairs, and a restaurant upstairs. It took a while to get a seat, but eventually we got one in the restaurant area. They were fine about us ordering off the pub menu in the restaurant, and I had a delicious, fairly priced chicken curry. After dinner, we got a seat down in the pub. They have an extensive amount of craft beers. I just wish it was closer to home.

Great restaurant, lovely atmosphere. Food was excellent, really busy the Saturday night i was there, we had a few beers down stairs in the pub area, cracking atmosphere. Restaurant is upstairs, we both had steaks that were perfect. Reasonably priced,

Great service and atmosphere, delicious food and the steaks are divine. Went on a Tuesday night and the place was pretty busy. Always a good sign! The staff were busy but they made sure we weren’t neglected. Very reasonable early bird starting at 20 euros(4.50 supplement for the steak). Go upstairs if you want a restaurant style setting(I had my graduation dinner here) or downstairs for a more relaxed pub setting. Not one for the vegetarians!

Having drove by this place 1000’s of times, finally stopped off for a mid-week dinner treat! Nestled in Monkstown along a string of cafes and restaurants I was super happy with this choice! I was not expecting it to be as big inside, once through the door it opened up to a very decent side space with cosy dinning options up a few steps to the right whilst in full view plenty of tables, high tables and bar seating! They’ve got some tv’s about which makes it a great little spot for some sport and drinks, we were there and with a World Cup game on, it had quite a good atmosphere!!! We liked a lot!!! Menu options were on the money, absolutely perfect with mix of salads, burgers, steak and a curry option or two. Staff were friendly and service was ok, a little slow to get our bill but we were still sipping over a drink so hey, no big deal! Went for the Thai Shredded Beef Salad and for being so good with my main order, I had dessert… And it did not fail, yummy warm chocolate and orange brownie with ice cream! Hubby had the burger and I had food envy for sure… Super happy and the grand tally for 2 mains, 2 desserts and 3 drinks = € 51.00 Will be back!

One word: Steak. Order the fillet steak medium. My mouth is watering thinking of it! Don’t order the ice cream though. It wasn’t ice cream, more frozen cream. Especially the vanilla as it didn’t taste of anything.

Had a nice lunch here on Sunday. It’s not really my type of pub and lacks a bit of atmosphere but the food was good, the staff were friendly. I was the youngest person dinning there by about 50 years but maybe the most comfortable chairs ever — so great for the hangover !

Meeting your girlfriends mum for the first time can be a daunting thing. Meeting her mother and grandmother who have just flown in from the US is another challenge entirely. Ok, they’re probably jetlagged and need something food wise which is a little familiar for their first foray into Dublin cuisine. So unique Irish Chinese food is definitely out the window, Indian might be pushing it if they don’t like spices, Italian… oh here we’ll just take the safe steakhouse option! After a lovely drive along the Coast Road catching in the sights of Sandymount, Dublin Bay and Dun Laoghaire pier(and the magical variety of warm sun, ice cold wind and a little drizzle in the space of 20 min that can only be called proper Irish weather!) I choose to bring them for dinner to FXB’s pub in Monkstown, an interesting amalgamation of a somewhat posh pub and a restaurant. Frankly it’s more of a restaurant with a bar. We were greeted by waiter as we entered and told we could sit where we like. The pub/restaurant(pubstaurant!) is very clean and airy, bright white walls and light coloured furniture makes it a very pleasant room. The seating varies from leather armchairs to high bar chairs around high tables to normal wooden back chairs. There is a little TV in the corner showing the match. No one I could see is here primarily for a drink(or for the match) and we quickly order from what I assume was the bar menu as we’re all pretty hungry. I got the pan fried prawns in coconut and tomato sauce with basmati rice; the other dishes were fish and chips, the hock of pork sounded delicious. The food was good if not magnificent but solid and enjoyable. We had desserts, the bread and butter pudding was yum-yum! Throw in a couple of teas and coffees the total bill for four came to about € 91. One real drawback about the place was that the toilets are up stairs, not ideal for elderly people. The FXB pub is a great place for a nice lunch or a casual dinner. It has a relaxed atmosphere. It’s not outstanding but it serves its purpose, a pleasant little spot.

The Pub is, and this will come as no surprise to you, a pub. It is part of the FXBs chain so it wont shock you to hear there is a restaurant upstairs as well and if previous visits to FXBs are anything to go by I’ll bet it is a grand place to dine. The pub however is not really a great place to go for a pint, it is too food orientated and the seating is too close together — they seem to have restaurant on the brain. When I went in the weather was horrible and wet and windy and when I went in I was greeted by an open fire and friendly staff, it is by no means all bad, it’s just that it doesn’t do it for me as a boozer.

What used to be an excellent and top class restaurant has willingly let itself become more social than formal. I remember going here purely for the steak, after all FXB’s is famous for its meat, and oh… what meat! I felt like i had to get dressed up for this slice of pure happiness… and when i was seated i was on my best behavior… because this was FXB’s and you don’t mess with the FXB! The place needed a makeover, but nothing more! When it reopened as «The Pub» i was saddened to see that they had sacrificed a lot of the restaurant in order to bring in the more«social drinker» type client in a new pub section. the kind of place you would go to watch the game i suppose. When I went for my meal here I found that this new atmosphere destroyed the restaurant ambiance. The steak is probably the same high quality,(the prices are certainly as high as ever) yet i was a little disappointed that the owners had let such a lovely place be downgraded to a pub. Some nice art on the walls that you may be able to purchase, the décor is fresh and the staff are very nice… I cant help feeling that 4 years ago i would have given this place 5 stars!

This is part of a chain of Family run Restaurants, I am told this is the original, The meat is from their own farm in County Offaly, a private room upstairs seats about 70, downstairs is a bar and Restaurant, seats a few more, you would be well advised to ring to book a table on a weekend night,

This place is exactly what you would expect from south county Dublin’s heartland… cream leather furniture, art on the walls, well turned-out staff and rugby or golf on the TV. Ross O’Carroll Kelly would be proud. However, it’s actually quite nice to pop in for a bit of tapas… while FXB’s upstairs is certainly not of the cheap and cheerful variety, downstairs does decent food for decent prices. The selection of bread and dips, clocking in at € 4ish, is both generous and delicious(if you like tapanade, pesto and tomato dips… yummy!), while such old favourites such as spiced beef — for the odd Munsterman that braves this bastion of Leinster support — is nice to. Never really packed, it can on occasion lack atmosphere, or even, God forbid, become home to ‘ladies who lunch’. A good bet is not to bother with going to the restaurant itself, which has gone down somewhat since being renovated some years ago, and stick to The Pub itself.

FXB is short for steak, and my God, can they cook a steak. The upstairs is restaurant, while the downstairs claims to be a pub. I don’t see why they’ve imposed the distinction though because you can eat in both and the latter always feels more like a waiting room for the former, as opposed to a separate entity in itself. FXB’s serve quality food, that’s without question. But with a meal for two+wine costing at least € 60 you might want to consider getting a suger mamma/daddy before making the trip. Well, that’s according to my student rate sensibilities. Maybe some of you fancy Dans in full-time employment might disagree.
