Salthill and Monkstown Dart Station

This Dart station is the closest station to the west pier of Dun Laoghaire and one which provides the quickest access to the nearby sailing school.
The station has great views over the sand flats out to Howth in the distance and looks amazing on a beautiful day. It is hard to walk up the stairs after exiting the train and not snapping a picture.

I come here to catch the DART and to watch people learn to sail. It is strange, but this is really my favorite dart station. There is nothing truly special about it, but when I get off here, I can honestly think «Ahhhhh almost home» or when I am heading in to town I think «I wonder what Auld Dub will have in store for me today». So I like it. Nay… I love it.

Once upon a time a young man was dropped at the dart station by his wonderful parents. A terrible dark cloud covered the man as he gasped in shock realizing he had left his phone in the horse and carriage :(he cried! The helpful dart attendant came to his need… the young man was surprised and delighted at the level of service and he returned home with his phone in pocket because of the nice Dart attendant. The End

I have always had an issue with the name of this station. as far as I’m concerned it should be simply Monkstown Dart Station. But that is neither here nor there, as a station it has had a bit of an upgrade lately, new seats and a lick of paint. There has always been that same vacant space of overgrown weeds that seems to be where they once considered a new building of some sort but it never materialised. The station is quite handy, and there are certainly no frills about it. The views are great most evenings if you look out towards Seapoint across the water.
Also a Handy station for those who have lost or dont have a ticket because you can simply walk out off the platform without having to validate any tickets… though I wouldn’t be encouraging any of that kind of carry on!
