the hostel was tiny and dirty… the free breakfast was insufficient for all the gust we decided to have a breakfast in another place

Great hostel! The staff gave us a free upgrade when we arrived because they weren’t too busy. The shower was incredible and the rooms were clean. A very short walk from everything in Killarney and a short bike ride to the national park. The front desk staff was super helpful and kind. Would definitely recommend!

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU STILL WANT TO HAVE LOW STANDARDS FOR HOSTELS. It was incredible. The pictures on here have not been updated (and I forgot to take one) but they’ve recently added a new building and it is immaculately clean, modern, and quiet.
Our room had a queen bed and two bunks, which was perfect for our group of three. The shower was amazing. I never want to take showers when I stay in hostels, but I didn’t want to get out of this one! En suite bathroom with a Rainfall shower head. If you want to continue having low expectations for hostels, this place might be too nice for you. Definitely ruined all other hostels for me.
It’s also located right across from a great pub called Danny Mann. They’ve got a lovely staff, great food and… beer, of course.
Hands down my favorite place to stay in Ireland!

Kilarney is pretty small, so any hostel you book will be close to the train station or anything else you are trying to do. To get there you have to walk down an alleyway. It’s safe and everything, but it just is easy to walk right by it, so be on the look-​out.
It’s a fine place to sleep for one night. The beds are comfortable enough. They have a breakfast included but it’s very basic with minimal protein. That seems to be the norm in all of Ireland. They serve coffee (not instant!!), bread with jam or butter, and cereal. Nothing substantial.
The wifi was very spotty and I had to turn it off because I couldn’t get a good enough connection.
It wasn’t dirty by any means, but it didn’t impress me.

My expectation of hostels is that you get what you pay for. You don’t pay much and you have a place to stay. I would play Neptunes on the higher end of that scale because they were clean, easy to find, helped us out with parking our rental car (free), and close to everything. Location is usually the deciding for me, this place is a winner. I was happy with the availability of private rooms and the low cost. I would definitely stay there again if I was to find myself in Killarney.

great value for the price. It’s affordable, the beds are comfortable, and it’s in a great location. The bathrooms are kind of gross, so don’t forget your shower shoes! They actually have drip coffee for breakfast too! no instant coffee like most places

Fantastic, quaint, cozy little hostel in a perfect location.
Pete, at the front desk, was very welcoming and accommodating which was nice after traveling all day.
The triple room we had was small but clean and comfortable. Security is very tight after a certain hour which was also very nice so no one could just walk in unless they were staying there. Curfew is at three am which seems late— until you’re out partying all night and have to run back :)
The common area was very relaxing and also has free wifi and a computer to use. Perfect location. Stay here.

This place was pretty nice, as far as hostels go. The front desk staff were all very nice and friendly, they booked us a tour of the Ring of Kerry (no way was I driving those narrow mountain roads) and may have even gotten us a discount on it.
We got a private room with a double bed and a private bathroom and it was clean and cozy. It wasn’t noisy and I got a good night’s sleep both nights we stayed there. The common areas include a kitchen, lounge area with an internet computer and library, and we were there in the early part of the season, so it was pretty empty most of the time.
The breakfast was AMAZING. So. much. food. We had just stayed at a hostel in Cork where breakfast was all you can eat toast, so this was just about the most exciting thing ever. There was cereal and milk, yogurt, toast, juice, etc. We went away stuffed and met some very interesting people while eating.
My only complaint is that we had booked the hostel from our other hostel in Cork (the desk clerk called over for us), and we had requested a less-​nice i.e. cheaper room than the one we were given. I would have taken a free upgrade, but they charged us for the nicer room. We were too tired when we checked in to argue about it, but I would advise people to pay attention to what you agreed to when you book and what they actually charge you.
Still, if you’re going to Killarney, I highly recommend this place.

I stayed there back in ’07 November. All I remember is having no complaints, great location, and nice people. I liked staying at Neptunes, and loved Killarney. One of our nights there, we meet some people staying there too, had some Guinness out on the tables, and had fun times. Overall, good stay.

I cannot say enough good things about this hostel! It was fantastic! it’s a 10 min walk from the bus station. it wasnt too difficult to find. the man at reception was extremely friendly and helpful and really laid back. we decided to stay another night beyond our 1 night instead of going on to tralee d/​t the quiet and convience of this hostel. internet is free! woo-​hoo! the kitchen was great and open to guests to use. the tv room was decent… cold for awhile until the fireplace finally warmed up the room a few hrs later but the use of your blanket from your rm helped. the water pressure and the temp of the shower is great. the lack of rm to place your shower stuff is a downfall though. the rm was decent and they provide towels. it was a great hostel experience. one of my favs! and i’ve been to a lot of the yrs.

Neptunes Hostel saved my sanity and my wallet! I was stuck, unexpectedly, in Ireland without a place to stay for a few days around St. Patrick’s Day, which is pretty much a nightmare. I almost ended up heading to Amsterdam for a few days, just to have a bed to sleep on, but on a fluke, I took a bus to Killarney in hopes of finding something affordable and a decent place to stay.
Neptunes was fantastic! It exceeded every non-​expectation that I had. I met so many awesome people during my stay here, and fell in love with Killarney itself. It was a good, clean, friendly, and extremely affordable place to stay. They have free internet, a good kitchen, and an okay breakfast. The bathrooms were fine, but a little on the chilly side. The location is perfect, it’s tucked away on a back street, so you don’t get too much noise coming in from the outside. Of course, given the size of the main part of town, you’re never too far away from anything. Within walking distance to pubs, restaurants, Muckross House, and the bus station. You can also rent bikes, take a hike to Aghadoe, and arrange bus tours around the Ring of Kerry, and other Kerry sites. Highly recommended!
