Definitely one of the things to do when you’re visiting Kilkenny! The climb isn’t that bad and is actually quite fun and the panoramic view you have of the city at the top is very worth it.
I have uploaded a picture of my attempt to do a panorama photo with my phone to give an idea of the great view. (It was quite windy that day though so I was rather worried my phone would fly out of my hand — see what I do for Unilocal?!)
It costs around € 3 to climb the tower but it’s worth to get the dual ticket to tour the cathedral as well — there is a great story about the witch Dame Alice Kyteler in Kilkenny, and the pub named after her! (see:

This 9th century round tower is located on the grounds of St. Canice’s Cathedral just off Dean St. in Kilkenny city centre. For a small fee (around 2euro) you can climb the many, many (many!) steps and ladders up to the top for a nice view of Kilkenny and its surrounding area.
