YAAAUUUUUAAAAMMMMMM So I had one of the crepes, super simple Butter & Lemon & Sugar and I swear it was one of the best crepes I’ve had. Absolutely enormous too so great value. This with the Chai Latte & Espresso as usual was just the bees knees.

We were walking in Galways shopping district and came across this delightful café. We had the banana split crêpe, and not only was it delightful, it was amazingly inexpensive! I would not hesitate to recommend this little eatery!

Hadn’t been before — so this was a first time visit, looking for some late breakfast or brunch food one Sunday over Christmas. We were very very impressed. I know there are various Breton folks who have made Galway their base for years(The Breton Bakery was a landmark spot for real French baked goods back in the late 80’s and 90’s in Galway, as I recall). This place advertises itself as being Breton in origin also, and it’s the real deal. We went for their Galettes(savoury crepes) along with some coffees. They’re fantastic — really tasty, and perfectly cooked, packed with flavour. And the coffee was decent! :-) We also(for completeness) tried a sweet crêpe to finish. Stuck to the simple sugar, butter and lemon. Also delicious, but I reckon the Savoury fare had the edge. They also do their own cider(we didn’t sample this time around). Lovely place — they have seating downstairs and up, and the staff were friendly and efficient. Will return!

Good price, friendly staff and nice crepes. We came here last time we were in Galway. I got a savory crêpe but I wasn’t quite happy with it(they make only pork and veg and I wanted something with beef). I got the veg one with lots of spinach, but I wasn’t a big fan, so I got a sweet one afterwards! We came to Galway yesterday and met up with friends there again. This time I got a sweet one. For dinner! And I was so happy with it. Almonds, cinnamon, caramelized apples. It was so good. The waiter is very nice and friendly and polite.

Fantastic food and lovely atmosphere! Great place to bring some studying or have a nice dinner with friends without breaking the bank. Also have great coffee and a decent wine list. I can only give 3 stars however because 2 out of the 3 times I’ve been there the service was quite strange bordering on terrible.

When I first moved to Galway I’d walk past this place and think«ooh I must go there sometime!». My first time coming here, I leafed through the menu thinking to myself«I need to come back here more and try everything on here!!». But those were the old days… now they pretty much just do crepes(sweet and savoury) and a few salads and pastries. Let me start out with some bad stuff; the layout of the menu is just… well…bad. It’s one sheet and incredibly messy with bits of information just thrown around it. Service is always slow. Really slow. I never come here on a lunch break cos I know I’ll end up having to wolf down my food in the 5 mins before I have to get back to work.(They even mention that on the menu though so I suppose they don’t have so much staff in the kitchen). I have to admit I’m still disappointed over the new stripped down menu… the crepes aren’t so bad but they could do so much more! Now let me tell you about the things that keep me coming back. First of all, the toasted scones!(I’m sure that as a French bistro, that’s probably not what they want to be remembered for but anyway…) They do decent sized portions(you’ll be stuffed after a crêpe or a salad). The atmosphere is nice… my favourite place in terms of atmosphere in Galway actually. There’s one waitress who’s lovely… always really happy and smiley. They stay open late! So it’s the place to go for some«after hours coffee», which is great! :-) I’ll be back again but I just hope they’ll improve on a few of the bad things before then ;-)

Great coffee, good value, yum cider, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. So good we visited twice on our weekend away. And open late.

My boyfriend and I had been walking all over the city all day discovering the city and looking for great food and good places to eat for dinner. It was beginning to get really late and we almost gave up looking for a good but inexpensive place to eat but then suddenly we saw this place Java’s and we had both read about it on Unilocal but it was mentioned as a coffee shop so we did not think it was a place to go eat dinner. When we then were there they had a list of their daily specials for dinner and we decided to go in and have a look. That was the best choice we had made all day. This is no longer just a coffee shop this is also a cosy and cute place to go and eat simple but very delicious food. Both myself and my boyrfriend ordered the meal of the day which was beef bourguignon and it was the best beef bourguignon that I have ever tasted. The stew was so tasty, the right flavors combined just made this so worth it. Even the mash was mixed with butter, milk and salt with the right way so that just the right flavors came through and it made it the right combination of mash and beef bourguignon. I also loved that the side salad was not dripping with dressing and that you could use the lettuce to take up the sauce as I did when I was a child. The meat was so tender and just fell apart as soon as it entered your mouth. The price for this very amazing meal was even more amazing. For just the right amount of food and a very delicious meal this was only 8.95 Euros. I have not seen anywhere where you could get this kind of amazing food of this quality for such an amazing price, so I urge anyone coming to, passing through or living in Galway to go here and give this place a try for it’s daily meals.

Saying that my friends and I were obsessed with Java was only a mild understatement. I got through my meal and drinks card just once in five months(and I have a friend who went through a bunch) meaning I went to Java 8 – 10 times. Probably more like 15. Yes, 8 euro on a sandwich isn’t the best deal, but the sandwiches were delicious and filling. The crepes were delicious. The coffee was even better. And the staff is extremely nice. It’s a great place to people watch and chat, and I love that it’s open til late. Honestly, no bad things to say about Java, especially if you like good coffee.

Zachary Quinto(aka new Spock /Sylar in Heroes) used to work as a waiter in Javas! Hearing that made be very excited as around the time when Java’s was my favourite coffee shop in the whole world. I’ve been around the world and visited many coffee shops, but Java’s continues to be one of my favourite coffee shops in the whole world. It used to be that ordering in Ireland, you’d get either a cup of nescafe or a filter coffee if you were lucky. Java might have been ahead of its time but it continues to be a wonderful place to visit, i had a tasty chai latte from here and a yummy bagel with cream cheese and bacon, hands down was better than the last bagel I had in a café in San Francisco.
