History

Established in 1979.

The principal instructor Paul Dowling was tested and promoted to Black Belt in the Fitzwilliam Street school in 1979. The test panel comprised John Conway, Jim Rice and Tommy Jordan. Shortly afterwards Paul taught in the Fitzwilliam Street and Bray Kenpo schools. In 1992 Paul established a Kenpo school in Taney Parish Centre in Dundrum for advanced students in the Bray school. In 1994 he advertised for new students in the Taney school. The name Rathdown is to encompass the area from North Wicklow to South Dublin including the Dundrum area.

Paul Dowling has been training in Kenpo Karate since January 1974. He now hold an 8^th Degree Black belt from the International Kenpo Karate Association and has been an active instructor since 1979.
