Outstanding meal, service, and atmosphere. The waitress was attentive and very friendly; friendliest we’ve had thus far in Ireland. Great bar as well — especially if you like Jameson!

Lovely pub with comfortable seating in the upper level. I like the atmosphere the most; not too brightly lit and great jazz pieces on a Friday evening…

Nice girl working the bar. Good views of outside on parliament st if you’re sitting by the window. It’s all a bit broken up with a mezzanine level at the back and the Oak connecting behind the bar. I haven’t been here in a long time but the beer was good and we got a seat. I will think of coming here again when I’m meeting friends in the area.

thomas reads is in a really great location. It was quite nice inside with the décor and felt like a proper irish pub, but a bit cleaner and nicer. Nothing particularly stood out as amazing, but is a great spot for catching up with people in town. We also played a card game and they didn’t seem to mind it going on. but for a monday night it was pretty quiet.

I haven’t been in Thomas Reads is so so long… and on this latest visit I was here for an evening of fun and games. Literally gaming, which was lots of fun. The décor and layout of the main bar is pleasing, with the two levels. On the upper level you were able to look around at all the other gamers, saying«Ooooo, look what their playing». It was inclusive too, if there was a few people who wanted to join a table to play and there was space for more players, they were welcomed in with open arms. We had two Koreans join us last evening and much fun was had. For a Tuesday evening, sure where would else would you be going. Thomas Reads, recommended, gaming night or not.

Thomas Read may be my favorite pub yet. It’s a comfortable spot to watch a game or meet up with a decent sized group of friends. I love the floor-to-ceiling windows that let you discreetly check out passersby but, more importantly, let in loads of light to brighten up the pub on many a gray day. Instead of the usual glass of Carlsberg, I actually enjoyed a cup of Kahlua and coffee — mmm, good job bartender(and, thank you for the insider’s tip — ‘sip it, don’t stir it’!) As far as the space goes, there’s a split level in the main area in which the upper section offers lots of room for a larger group. There’s also another area downstairs.(And, the restrooms are clean too!) Enjoy your Guinness or Kahlua and coffee — and, if you sit at the bar take a moment to admire the classic black and white posters glued to the large pillar!

For a good indie-rock dj and dancing long nights in a dark basement, Thomas Read’s is the go-to spot in my book. It’s not huge but if you are with a good group of friends, it’s perfect. You can stay in a group with all your stuff but still have the freedom to roam and dance all over the room without getting lost forever. I am impressed with the crowd here. It doesn’t seem overly young(I’m in my late 20s) and I’ve also never seen the bros from upstairs venture down into the club. Thanks, dudes. If you are trying to meet people, it might not be the best spot since I’ve never noticed much mingling. Drinks are good and fairly priced.

Thomas Read is a good place to go for a few pints and watch the world go by. Even though it tends to get pretty busy in the evenings and you will get shoved around quite a lot, there still is a pretty good atmosphere about the place. The pints aren’t bad and the bartenders know what they are doing, so you don’t have to wait for too long. The dancefloor downstairs really isn’t my cup of tea though, probably because the shoving is even worse and the music isn’t that great either, well apart from Sunday evenings. Still, a nice place to go to if you want a lively night out.

Friday night they had a great singer, getting the crowd to join in on songs, they are one of the few pubs in Dublin to have Murphy’s stout on tap, they are pretty serious about throwing out anyone who gets too drunk. One of my favorate bars in Dublin.

Oh how I love Thomas Read’s at any time of day or night and on every and any day of the week. It is a great place to grab and early morning coffee and muffin, check out their deals and offers in the window, grab a seat outside and watch the world go by. Do the same thing at lunch time and have one of their fab wraps or soups and a chilled glass of white wine. It has a rich wooden interior and Parisian style pillars and big windows that give fab views of City Hall so it really is a great place to sit back and relax but not on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night, as this place gets rammed!

Thomas Reads is a kind of swanky, weirdly decorated bar just off the far end of Dame St, and I have to admit that I am a fan. Bars(rather than pubs) would not be my type of thing necessarily, but Thomas Reads is so full of idiosyncrasies that I cannot but love it. The interior is all heavy colours — dark red and black — and the furniture is designed so much for appearance and so little for functionality that you just have to appreciate the lengths that the designer went to(I mean, a big high wooden stool, square all around. It’s like sitting on a crate.) The drink prices aren’t too atrocious, and there’s a dancefloor downstairs that is opened up on the weekends. Thomas Reads is very much an evening venue, though. I was there for a drink in the middle of the day and the décor, which seems kind of cool at night, is decidedly weird in the sober light of day. Plenty of nicer daytime pubs in the area to go to instead. Head to Thomas Reads in the evenings, though, and you should be alright.

Perched on the corner of Parliament Street and Dame Street, this venue may live on the fringes of Temple Bar but, in my experience, it doesn’t suffer from Temple Bar Syndrome(hen nights, stag nights, messy nights!). It attracts a lively after-work crowd during the week and a mixed bunch at the weekend. It is conveniently attached to a sister bar, The Oak, so if you fancy a change of scenery, you won’t even have to put on your coat! From 10.30pm on a Friday night, you can sing-along to some live music(expect crowd-pleasers like U2, Bob Marley and Van the Man), after which you can sidle on downstairs to sample the delights of Thomas Read’s cellar dance floor, also open on Saturdays. Downstairs is a little bit shabby-looking and you may detect some unpleasant odours but you can have a dance for free. It’s quite spacious so you won’t get squashed and you won’t be forced to exchange sweat with the person bopping beside you. Hurrah! The music is surprisingly eclectic and I recall twisting, shaking and moshing to funk, 80s and rock. Not bad for a night’s work.
