The Grafton Barber

Have been bringing my son here for about 8 years! Unfortunately I won’t be going back! Had 2 incidents where my son was given jedward style, both times another barber had to take over and fix! Just looking for short back and sides! Flat top style! Barber did not listen! Standards gone down over past year! Very disappointed! :(

They dont listen to what you want and just give you the quickest haircut they can to earn more money, going there for a while and stopped because the service has deteriorated hugely

This was hands down the worst haircut I have ever had. I am a guy and the girl made me look like a poodle. It is ridiculous. I am going to have to wear a hat for the next two weeks it looks so bad. And it was just that, the whole experience was atrocious.
First, you have to bend over a sink for your head to be washed (I am not from Europe and don’t know if this is the norm, but it seemed really weird. The girl I got spent over 10 mins trying to get the temperature right and when she ‘did’ it was burning hot. Next I try to tell her what I want her to do and she say ‘ye, ye’ and starts cutting my hair. She spoke broken English so when I started to tell her things I wanted or that she was cutting too short she would say ‘ok’ but then just keep doing it. I am a guy, so my hair isn’t of utmost importance, but I was pretty upset leaving because I am going to have to spend my next two weeks like this. I am still really upset. I would never tell anyone to go here.
This is my first review because it was the first one I really felt hat I had a duty to prevent this from happening to someone else. So you’ve been warned.

I use to go here every time I needed a hair cut. Recently I found the quality has taken a dive. The last time I got it cut here I literally had to go and get my fringe fixed because it was so unbelievably uneven and all over the place. One end was at eye level the other end was above my forehead, all I asked for was «a trim».

Got my hair cut by an Australian gal… After my 25minute cut I was in love it the country.
They really offer a great service also here. Its kind of like a man cave, where he can come and chill out. get a great shave and have a laugh with the staff who are all really friendly.

Decent enough for a haircut, but give yourself some time as the cost is € 22.50 whether you have a dry cut or a wash and cut… so make the most of it!

«Real men don’t do Salons.» it says inside. Suits me. This is the former Green Dolphin was it has some pedigree in the value for money stakes. Well happy with the cut and the price, quick, no idle chit chat, and now coffee or tea for punters too. Why go anywhere else?
Italian-​Hungarian stylist (am I allowed use such a salony title, er, OK, cutter then), Flora is the best thing happening in haircutting and coolness in Dublin.
Extra services include shaves, head massages. Free coffee, lads mags, and generally super music to match — last I was was there it was Primal Scream’s «Rocks» did it for me.

The space is nice, the ambiance is good, and the staff is friendly, courteous and provides great service. An all-​around good, but not high-​end experience.
The barber was one of the more skilled I’ve seen. Worked very attentively and carefully. Immediately recognized my trouble spots (like the strange patch on my right jawline) and had a good sense of technique in dealing with them. I’ve seen better, but not considerably better.
I was a little discouraged by the products they were using. If I’m paying for a shave (or for my own products), I expect some degree of thought and care in selecting what to put on my skin — but they were working with straight-​up mass-​market chemical-​heavy items. I felt a need to go home and wash my face afterwards.
Might have been 4 star but for the price. Simply too expensive.

Men don’t do pampering but when they do, there’s nothing like a regal hot towel shave and head and upper body massage while enjoying a complimentary cognac or beer.
The Grafton Barber is a bit steep in price but these barbers are good. They’ll steam and shave your face a good few times to ensure every bit of stubble is gone without a trace.
Great when hungover or on the morning of a wedding and the gift vouchers are a greaf pressie for fathers day or christmas!

Been coming here for over 10 years. Great barbers and the complementary beer is always a bonus.

Firstly, there is only one reason that the Grafton Barber does not get 5 stars — the price. It is somewhat exorbitant, but then you get what you pay for, especially if you hit the place at non-​peak hours (I am lucky enough to be able to do this most of the time).
I have been to the one on Grafton street at least half a dozen times, once or twice at busy times but usually not. The service is excellent, there are complimentary drinks, televisions to watch in the waiting area and daily papers and other current magazines to keep you entertained if there is a wait.
The employees are courteous, friendly, as chatty as you want them to be and don’t make you feel rushed (though naturally this changes if it is a Saturday afternoon or similar). All in all a pleasant experience.
A couple of things to note:
First, if they offer to use the hair tonic pre-​cut, say yes! — different hairdressers will apply it in different ways, but if you get one of the ones that applies it as part of a scalp massage you will feel a whole lot more relaxed about your day from then on. Even if you don’t get that extra perk, it is very refreshing — word of warning though, it does tingle quite a bit :)
Second, take advantage of the drinks — you are certainly paying for them even if you don’t partake. The coffee isn’t great, but it’s free and drinkable — I think they may have stopped offering beer (shame).
I have had bad experiences in barbers and hairdressers over the years — so far this place has been great. When I find a decent place I tend to stick with it (at one point in the US driving 20 miles) — Grafton Barber is my default and likely to be so for some time to come.

There’s a certain air of luxury about the Grafton barbers that while it would have been great [an indeed it was in my case] in the pre-​recession years to spend so much on a simple haircut, it was enjoyable to do so. Maybe it was the head massage that is occasionally thrown in, or maybe the tonic they use that leaves your scalp tingling for hours. Either way, they certainly paved the way for the boutique barbers, where its no longer just a haircut, but an enjoyable experience and atmosphere in which to wait. The majority of the clientele are elderly rich businessmen or young yuppies, but its nice to think you’re getting the same service as them, albeit for the same price. Coats are taken from you as you enter, you have a choice of requesting your favourite barber [although this entails extra waiting, though you can book ahead I think], the day’s newspapers are available [no more out of date tomes on golf!], you are offered tea, coffee or even a beer while you wait.
While you wait. Because you will be waiting. It tends to be very busy, as had been mentioned before they do have a student rate for the mornings, so its all-​go all day. As for the actual haircut, well, they have a plethora of instruments to achieve the hairstyle you want, including the masterfully wielded open-​blade razor. Its scary looking, but damn does it get results. Once finished, you have a choice [or can ask which suits you best, depending on your style] of wax, gel, paste or oils with which to style your hair. a talc brush and quick follow up with the blade razor, and you’re all done. Its an experience, to say the least. You should try it at least once.
Other services include hair dying, wash and cut [which is the standard haircut, there is a dry cut option], styling, wash and styling [no cut], and I’m sure there’s more. they also sell their own line of paste, cream and gels, and the wonderful hair tonic.
Prices start from 17e for a dry cut, and 22e for a wash and cut. Children’s prices available also.
In summary: ⁴⁄₅: great services, nice people, but bit of a long wait for service and a bit pricey.

I’ve made the same mistake twice with the Grafton Barber twice. Just because I’m a but thick like that. They do a student deal Monday to Friday before twelve, a dry cut for a tenner or thereabouts. But being the nocturnal gobshite that I am, I ended up strolling in at two o’clock and finding that I was sorely mistaken, decided to stay anyway. 22 € later, I had far less hair than I would’ve liked. Twice.
