Its a little soulless if I’m honest, but I have been in much worse when it comes to city station bars. That said, the staff are nice and serve you with a smile. Final thought from my last visit here, the Trapiche Sauvignon Blanc was pure awful. I tried my best, but after a few sips I had to abandon it. It’s was one of those a small bottle wines that all bars used to serve, so I should have known better. Thankfully serving wine by the glass instead of these small bottles is gathering momentum in Ireland and the number of places that serve these little bottles is getting smaller.

I like this little pub. It’s handy enough in the train station and the staff are always friendly. The prices are decent considering it is in Dublin and the food is actually pretty good as well. When waiting for a train you can’t beat hanging out here sure.

The Galway Hooker is the bar in Heuston Station and if you catching an early morning train in the winter and you’re waiting around you should pop in here to warm up. It’s far from fine dining but the heat’s on and there’s plenty of seats. Actually I find it very cosy in here and the coffee is delicious. They do a brilliant breakfast too — a full Irish for € 7.95 and a jumbo breakfast for € 8.95. The jumbo is essentially the full Irish with a few extra sausages and rashers. But as breakfast food goes, it’s yum and if you’re facing into a long train journey it will set you up for the day. Very friendly staff too.

Being a Galway girl I feel bad giving this place a bad review, but it really is complete and utter crap. Like most people I am only ever in here when waiting on a train, and now I don’t even bother going in. I’d rather sit on one of the hard, metal, uncomfortable chairs in the waiting area of the station. It’s just a bar really with crap food.

I would only ever drink in here if I was waiting on a train, no other reason to hang around. It’s pricey and the food is unspectacular. Thankfully the bartenders are a handsome lot. That reminds me of an interesting fact that some of you may find useful. If you are the type that craves a drink on Good Friday then come here. In Ireland you can’t buy alcohol on Good Friday but oddly you can purchase it on a train… We really are a wonderful little country.
