The Fresh Market

Very clean, organiser and friendly shop. I find that evergreen is cheaper though. For example at evergreen the avocados are 50c each and here it’s 1.50 € each. Although they do have a larger variety in products. So for the more specific vegan/​vegetarian finds, like specific types of flour then go here.

Very good local freak vegetable shop that sells so much more than fresh vegetables. Plus — they open on a Sunday! Top marks for that. So if you need a great selection of fresh vegetables, including all those things you might need for cooking asian dishes (e.g. lemongrass, chillies, ginger etc.) — look no further. They cover all the basics extremely well of course — potatoes, carrots, and all the «regular» vegetable selections. Plus eggs, oils, pasta, flour, chilled goods. It’s all there. Love it.

I’m a fan, yey, but very occasional one. Why? Because it’s quite expensive, compared to Moore st. market or simply Lidl and Aldi. But it’s a nice little place, where is pleasant to shop around and ask any questions
Used to come here more often, but since Aldi was built closer to me, I just stop going there :(
For instance, it came in super handy, when I was looking all over East Wall for aubergine. Couldn’t find in Aldi, two Centras and Tesco. So, great selection of plants, let’s just say :)

Cracking wee greengrocers’. Good variety and well priced. What more could you ask for?

At the Fresh Market you could get a nice variety of fruit and vegetables as well as exotic fruit, dried fruit, seeds, fresh and dried herbs. I really like the place, the prices are very fair and you will get value for your money. I use a lot of fruit and veggies for all my cooking and it is very difficult to get quality. Well! here you will.
I was absolutely astonish by the price of the avocados at 0.99 cent each, this is the best price for the quality you will get, I can guarantee that the same avocado costs up to € 1.60 to € 1.70 which is an awful lot of a difference, and like this example I could give you many more.
Nicky (the owner) appeared to talk to me and explain a bit about the shop and the offers he has and he kindly let me take a photo of the shop. This kind of shops you won’t find them anymore and they are such a treat for the area and the locals. There you will select fresh fruit and vegetables with the help of nice people behind the counter who will give you a smile and good service, not like a big super market where you will be wondering about and finding out where to weight your items.
We (we all do) are responsible for letting go small places like this instead of supporting the small companies which have a lot more to offer than the big monsters who won’t even care what they are selling to you or what kind of food you cook and eat. So be it, bon appétit mes amis. I’m off to the FRESH MARKET!!!

I found myself out this neck of the woods at the weekend and decided to venture into The Fresh Market cause I’m trying the whole new healthy living malarky again, on attempt four so far this week.
It was bustling with folks, which is always a great sign. I got some dates, bananas & blood grapefruits (did I just make a new variety of grapefruit up?)
It all come to less then € 5… The man in front of me got some spuds and it came to 50c, he was shocked at the cheapness.
There is a lovely touch at the front door, a local has print-​outs of recipes and the seasonal veg/​fruit that go with it. Nicky the owner allows her to display them, it really in keeps with the local feel of the spot.

I’m a bit underwhelmed. Maybe it’s my origins from «down the country», but this seems like a pretty standard fruit and veg shop. It has fruit. It has vegetables. They have a few loaves of fresh bread, a few jars of sauces/​jam and some nuts. All of this is pretty usual for this kind of place these days. It’s a useful place if you live in the area, but by no means provides a compelling reason to travel from afar!

This little gem is conveniently located in the heart of Marino. It has everything you need for a home cooked healthy meal. I was shopping there recently and got 2 brown paper bags full of vegetables, fruit, Italian pasta, pesto, milk and chutney. The bill was very reasonable at € 12…this was my weeks shop minus meat and fish, so i was delighted! The shop is fresh and airy, the guy that seems to be running it is ginger with a fisherman look about him. He’s really helpful with recipe ideas with what veg is in season. This will certainly be a regular haunt for me!
