Some of the best up and coming comedians in Ireland can be seen at the comedy crunch, all for free with free popcorn and ice cream! And dont people know it! It’s an excellent night to get out and about mid week [Sunday and Mondays] but make sure you get there early because chances are everyone else will have the same idea. Prepare to be crammed into a tiny room downstairs, although it has to be said that staff will always try and find you a seat even if it does end up a bit like playing tetris.

If you are planning to be in Dublin on a Sunday or Monday night(and trust me, nothing you could be doing on a Monday night will be better than this — nothing) you have GOT to make this part of your evening. I usually expect to be fairly underwhelmed at comedy shows, small club comedians just don’t tend to have the greatest material. These comedians were absolutely hilarious and had me laughing the entire night. It was also such a great way to get a taste of Irish culture and humor as each comedian gave insight into their childhoods, adolescence and families. With an internationally and culturally varied audience, it was pretty awesome to see how everyone could relate on these subjects. Even the host comedian that introduced each act, was absolutely hysterical. The only downside was the absolute nightmare New Jersey girl(shocking…) in the audience. Thankfully, the comedians shredded her. It also doesn’t hurt that this takes place in the Stag’s Head(also reviewed), one of the most beautiful bars in Dublin and is at no cost! It’s free! Just go!

I’m not going to lie, I’ve been around the comedy circuit… a bit of a comedy show-slut you might say. So essentially I know my stuff, and this place is HA-mazing(and the jokes are far better than my puns) Honestly, you probably wont get better value anywhere else in Dublin to see a range of such good live comedians. It takes place every Sunday and Monday night, entry is free and they also randomly go to the effort of handing out free ice-cream during the half time break! I’ve been twice now, and both times I was really quite amazed by the consistent quality of good comedians for such a low-budget, low-hype show. Usually at these comedy nights where you get several people performing, there’ll always be some hurrendously awkward and cringey comedians who just crash and burn joke after joke. In these situations you’re left biting your fist and wincing your eyes, telepathically shouting at them to get off the stage… Honestly though, the both times I went to The Comedy Crunch my fist stayed firmly out of my mouth and my eyes were not sore from any cringe-wincing! Instead it was my leg that was sore from all the thigh slaps I was lashing out with each hilarious joke that was thrown at the crowd, and then my eyes were only red because I was laughing so hard that I was brought to tears! With acts like Aidan Bishop, Fred Cooke and Damo Clarke making appearances, not to mention loads of other Irish and International acts, I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good old laugh-and-a-half.

What could be better than a free comedy show from mostly Irish folks, who are ridiculously funny, in the basement of a typical Irish pub? In my 10 days in Ireland I went there twice, and twice I got a really enjoyable and professional comedy show. The show runs on Sunday and Monday nights ONLY! Crowd is mostly international which is a feeding ground for the comedians for stereotype jokes, however, some of the comedians are just brilliant, sharing there comic point of view of Irish life, and life in general. You should be there early, at around 20:15 to grab a good seat. I chose on my second visit the seats under the stairs, which was perfect. If you plan to eat, get some food, because the bar does not provide food after 18:00, and they don’t really mind you bringing something from the outside. The show is usually 4 or 5 acts with a break in the middle. You will also get free ice cream sandwiches, which is great.
