OMG!!! This is without doubt the best steak in Dublin. Great value for Sunday lunch. You certainly feel a warm welcome from Kevin the owner and Joe the manager. I had Foie Gras to start and obviously steak for the main course. I would definitely recommend to go hungry as the portions are huge. If you have enough room after Slaterrys is accross the road for a drink

My favourite spot for lunch in Ballsbridge. The food is uniformly delicious, and they go to great lengths to get locally sourced ingredients. There’s also a nice selection of craft beers and ciders to accompany the food. Consistently great, and an excellent example of what Irish food does best.

Stopped by The Chop House for a drink with a group of friends after dinner and ordered a bottle of red wine to share. After pouring ourselves a glass, we looked at each other slightly confused. something was different about this wine. After looking behind us where the wine was stacked up we could see all the bottles were being stored on top of the heater. See the other pictures in the profile here and you’ll notice the hot air vents just below the wine. Seriously, who serves regular red wine luke-warm? We actually had to let the wine COOL down to room temperature to finish it. After pointing out to one of the waitresses, she responded in a puzzled manner, as if she was not sure how storing wine on the heater would make a difference to the taste. It was nice wine but just surprising how something so basic was lost an establishment that seemed to showcase their wine selection.

Fancy fancy food, and it was delicious. We didn’t know we needed a reservation, but luckily there was a table for two available. We got the goat cheese and caviar, and the foie gras starters. The presentation was lovely, and everything was tasty. We both ordered the special, venison. Everyone around us was having these gorgeous steaks atop cutting boards, and we looked on in anticipation. Unfortunately our disappointment was audible when we were presented with our beautifully plated venison medallions with grilled plums and veggies. We were really hoping for hunks of steak. But our food was delicious, and we savored every little morsel(emphasis on the«little»). We followed with the Baileys cheesecake, which was ok. Overall, it was the most expensive meal I’ve had in a while, but the quality of the food would bring me back in if I’m ever in that part of the world again. Service was good.

Went here for my boyfriends birthday a few weeks ago and honestly was the best meal I’ve had in a long time. The spicy prawn starter was out of this world! My fillet steak was cooked perfectly, I take it medium rare, bloodier the better. So delicious! Pricey but worth it for special occasions!

What do yis want to eat?! Yes that is how the waitress at The Chophouse addressed us when she came to take our order!!! After about two years since our last visit we decided to return to The Chophouse when my fiancé’s brother came to stay with us for the weekend. I don’t know if I had rose tinted memories of my last visit but I found this trip to be very hit and miss. We arrived about 20 minutes early for our table but as the place was practically empty it wasn’t an issue. The specials are up on a blackboard. In fact there’s more info on the blackboards dotted around than on the above menus. The bread that was brought to the table was good. So we were asked what we wanted to eat. I chose the rare yellow fin tuna. Fiancé and his brother decided to share the fish board. For main course I chose the 8oz fillet of Hereford Beef. I asked for Bearnaise sauce and ended up having my sides changed from the standard gratin potato and spinach and garlic cream to chips, caramelised onions & green beans. I won’t complain about that as I don’t actually like potato and the lads got to eat the chips. Fiancé chose the fish and chips and his brother went with the ribeye. In case your wondering the sauce on my board was pepper not Bearnaise but that was easily swapped over! For dessert I chose the Asiette of chocolate(chocolate raspberry opera, chocolate hazelnut brownie @ chocolate mousse) with an americano. Fiancé had an espresso martini and his brother tried the poitin smash. OK so the food is great. The service not so much. I assume they’re mental busy when there’s games on at Aviva but they weren’t that busy at that hour(and the rugby game was away that day!) We were brought to our table. It had been reset from the last sitting but not wiped down. We had to ask for the table to be wiped and it was done half arsed. They wiped one half of the table down and left the glass marks on the other half of the table! Other tables were brought a board with all the various cuts of beef and these were explained. I mean I know steak but I assume that that is part of the experience if you decide to visit here. I could be wrong but it seemed to me that if you were a regular you got a lot of attention from the wait staff. That sort of attitude would hardly encourage me to return. Especially when it’s not in the centre of the city and there are plenty of other places to try.

How things have changed since our first visit to The Chophouse and it makes me wonder if there is a correlation between an improving economy and a deterioration in service. We arrived 20 min early and were seated at a table that had not been cleaned off properly, considering this was 5.45 and the place was not busy with loads of tables i thought this odd. I had to ask for the table to be wiped down. This set the tone for the rest of the evening. The Chophouse must have shares in blackboards and chalk as they have at least 5 boards dotted around the walls telling you the specials, the cocktails, the cheeses, the craft beers, the gin cocktails and so on. I was dizzy scanning around the room trying to locate them. Is there really a need for this? Would a single specials board not suffice and then update the other menus accordingly? So its time now to place our order, the specials were not explained and our waitress curtly said«what do you want to eat»? Is this how food orders are now taken? We order the tuna starter and the fishboard. Both starters were good. The steak was ordered medium rare and arrived as ordered sitting on the same wooden board we had experienced before. The fish and chips was just OK, the tempura batter a little soggy in places. For desert we had assiette of chocolate which compromised of chocolate mousse, chocolate and hazelnut brownie and a chocolate raspberry opera. This was by far the best thing we had eaten. I had a espresso martini which was wonderful. I get the impression that there are regular customers and they for sure experienced a better service than we secured which is great for them but I certainly would not want to come back again. We shouldn’t have returned and we wouldn’t have tarnished what was a wonderful first visit with great service with this unpolished, unprofessional and mediocre experience. I hope this is not a case of good reviews corrupt and rave reviews have corrupted absolutely, I won’t be giving this place another try to find out.

Yum, Yum, Yum @ The Chop House last night. My BF and I returned to one of our favourite D.4 gastronomic delight. We opted to sit at our favourite position at bar on hightop chairs so we leverage bar space to hold our drinks and of course chat to friendliest and very knowledgeable bar man. So last night’s chat we discussed some new craft beers & took recommendation of a Rioja. We chose a light Pilsner craft beer from Carlow to wet our palette. For dinner we started with sharing a seafood platter. Not a morsel remained on the lovely black slate on which it was served. For mains I enjoyed Wicklow venison which was served in bite size pieces and plated with kale. I poached some twice fried chips from my BFs plate. He loved his rib eye accompanied by bernaise sauce. Given it was a January night Chop House was busy and always a cosy & welcome atmosphere. So there you have it, a lovely evening with delicious food.

The Chop House is on Anthony Bourdain’s list of recommended restaurants in Dublin, so we made sure to check it out when we were visiting. It also helped that it was around the corner from our b&b so we made a last-minute reservation on a Monday night and stopped in a short time later. The offering at The Chop House is(of course) centered on steak, and I would advise anyone dining here to avail themselves of that. I had the rib-eye steak with peppercorn sauce which was served on a wooden board with a big cone of fries on the side, and was excellent. My sister had a special which was a pork chop, and was also excellent(so yes, focus on the grilled meats here). The menu also presents a nice, fresh offering of salads and good starters to get the meal going. The restaurant itself is bright and contemporary on the interior, and the staff were courteous and friendly. The wine list also has an interesting offering of very moderately priced bottles to go with the meal. The thing I really appreciated at The Chop House was the emphasis on local(or as local as possible) sourcing. Overall, a sure bet in the Ballsbridge area and probably worth traveling for if you’re looking for a great steak in Dublin!

Lovely, lovely lunch here last week. First, let me just say, that despite the popularity of the place, some minor celebs and the location, the service was excellent. Staff was absolutely lovely. Of course I was with a regular, so my service may have been a bit on the VIP side. Anyway, first we shared the fish board; fish cakes, smoked salmon, hake tempura, crab salad-all delicious and well presented. And while I’m not the biggest fan, the crab was the best. YUM! We also shared the smoked salmon risotto, which came with peas and rocket. Also not a big fan of risotto, but it was tasty. Worth eating on its own. I guess it was the day of changing my tastes. The least favourite of my lunch, which is why a star has been taken away, was the open faced steak sandwich. A lot of sandwich(apparently we weren’t given the regular bread) but not much steak. The steak that was there was tasty but I’m glad we had the chips as well. Lastly, dessert. Oh my goodness. I’m not a sharer, but instead of seeming greedy to my hosts, I said I would share my meringue with lemon curd. So delicious. The lemon was lovely and tart, the meringue was sweet(maybe a bit over baked?), and it was fantastic. Nice way to start off the silly season.

The ambience of this place is very warm like you are visiting your aunt that is a great host. Inside, children were running up the stairs singing jingle bells. The waitress brought us complimentary bread. Water was served in sparking glass, there was a warm heater and rugby was playing on tv. We ordered the foi gras for appetizer, which was really sweet and rich. Then for the main course we had fish and chips and pork belly. The fish was a large size — about the size of «Wreck it Ralph’s» fist deep fried in a crunchy batter. But the pork belly was the siZe of a cassette tape… But probably for good reason, since they bring it to you on a rock platter, with the fat still sizzling and the skin extra crispy. I’m Pinoy too and have an inherit ability to judge crispy pork!(I love Filipino crispy pata! Nothing beats that!)

I can’t remember ever before having a meal that made me feel embarrassed. The meat(the porterhouse steak) was tougher than I’ve yet had in my entire meat-eating career, and the crab was tasty, but full of hard bits. The«tempura» white fish, in fact, was decent. But from a restaurant named Chop House, you’d expect at least average steak. I should say the steak was flavorful, but given the astounding ratio of gristle to edible meat, I can’t in good conscience recommend this place to my Unilocaly brethren. Normally I wouldn’t complain about service, but our waiter seemed miserable(low pay?), and flung dish rag water all over our table as she bussed the table next to us. Why was I embarrassed? This was my girlfriend’s birthday, and I hoped to bring her to a lovely restaurant for a delightful meal — a meal recommended by Anthony Bordain, no less! I ended up feeling ripped off and poorly fed. You can’t believe everything you see on TV.

Running the risk of appearing picky, I feel that a Unilocaler must voice their true opinion. My fillet was rather chewy, despite the fact that I ordered it medium rare; air conditioning seemed to have taken a vacation; billing a large group was rather a hassle. Classically, this would qualify as a restaurant that overpromises, but underdelivers. However, my friends mentioned that their meat was perfect, so perhaps I just ordered the«wrong» dish. Overall, I believe that this might have just been a one-time distress with regard to food and surroundings, which is why I would be happy to retry another time. Happy feasting.

Staying at the Roxford Lodge. Recommended by the front desk. Just 2 blocks down. Great food, atmosphere and very welcoming place. I had the lamb, done perfectly. My friend had the ribeye and she loved it. Our first night in Ireland and a great way to start our adventure! !

I chose The Chop House because I’d heard that Anthony Bourdain(author of the excellent ‘Kitchen Confidential’) said he’d eaten«the best f-ing meal in my life!» there… suffice to say, no further recommendation needed. I knew the place was a steak house but didn’t realise it was also a sports bar(please God, no!) We were seated in sun-trap area(which could be a bonus if there was air-con but not so without it!) Oh, and we had noisy kids in the immediate vicinity… not conducive to a relaxing dining experience. However, the kids soon quietened down, the noise of the TV became but a blur and the sun-trap appeared to be a more pleasant proposition once I’d slapped my shades on. In need of refreshment and an apéritif, I went for a gin gimlet cocktail(with cucumber and elderflower), it was just the job! Next up I went for the squash tortellini to start. It was melt-in-the-mouth and provided a great contrast to the crispy sage leaves. I don’t eat steak often but I thought what better place to eat some cow, and so I opted for the 35-day aged Limousine beef rib-eye steak. This is a really tasty cut, and it was especially moreish with the garlic butter sauce. But weighing in at 10oz, it defeated me and I left about a third on the plate. The steak came with equally delicious chips(cooked three times, as is the fashion these days!) with a creamy avocado garlic dip. I wasn’t able to finish the chips but the dip vanished very quickly! We had some strong red wine to finish, with no room for dessert. Shame, as I had my eye on the ricotta and orange dumplings… next time!

The best meal in Dublin! I’m so glad that we were able to get reservations for our last night in Dublin. Great food in a relax environment with friendly staff. The lamb was perfectly cooked and the«chips» were amazing. Emmet, our host, sat and talked with us for nearly 30 minutes. We laughed the entire time.

Went there as a group of 6! Atmosphere: western, modern, candled, relaxed, but packed with locals from around D4. Food: generous portion of steak with different dips, & great crispy fires placed on a wooden board. Steak tastes amazing, i requested it to be cooked blue & it came blue. Wasn’t that impressed with the starters, but if I go again I would get the scallops as the looked great. Drinks: red wine was great, good selection, but pricy Service: friendly, quick. The best part is when they show you all the meat cuts, so you know what you are ordering … looked fancy Cost: €€€€ 32 euros for rib eye steak Location: D4 next to slattery’s pub which is handy for a pre & post dinner drinks. Tip: make sure to make a booking as the place was full on a thursday night, and try to sit inside since you have a pub next door

I was looking forward to trying this place and it ended up being my favorite dining experience in Dublin! When we first got there the place was pretty empty but it slowly filled up. The place was very cozy(there were pillows on the bench seats which was a cute addition). The menu was small but every dish sounded delicious. We started off with the pan seared king prawns and it was very satisfying! The sauce was so flavorful but not too heavy and the prawns were served with salad greens. I highly recommend trying this! Our waiter also brought out raw meat on a board so we could have a look at the night’s selection. I had never seen such beautiful, bright red, fresh cuts of steak! It was a carnivore’s dream! I was going to order the pork chops but after they brought that out, I got the 35 day dry-aged rib eye. One word: Wow! I requested medium and it was a little on the rare side but still unbelievably juicy. I loved how it came with onion marmalade and your choice of sauce(pepper or bearnaise). The fries it came with were good but not the best fries I’ve ever had. Keep in mind the steak was so huge, I only ate about half. I was sad I had to leave the rest behind. We also had red wine although I forgot which one but it went great with the steak. Our server was friendly and the bathrooms were clean with lots of character. If I ever go back to Dublin, I will definitely come back.

Très bon restaurant ou la viande est succulente, saignante comme je l avais demandée ce qui est rare dans un pays anglo saxon !! Un peu bruyant le soir ou nous y avons mangé.
