Before the advent of Ikea, and back when I lived in a one-bed gaff just a few streets up, Arnott’s motley Bargain Shop was my weekend mainstay. Skid-proof mixing bowls, bathroom rugs, umbrellas with kittens on them(which I was forced to give to an 8 year old family member as I’m apparently TOOOLD to carry one of these) were mine. Still are, actually(except for the umbrella…*sniff*) I like the pickings here, never the same week to week and always featuring a few strange home-aids the likes of which JML wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole. Inevitably a few things n the sales floor have been broken –but the good news is they’ll be even cheaper, as the practice here seems to be patching up and marking down, letting more tenacious customers take their chances with the super glue.

Not a bad shop at all! its always a goo idea to go in here before you go into the proper Arnotts shop if you are looking for something in the way of home wares. This shop is where Arnotts moves some of the stock it is marking down to. if you think about it they are really doing people a favour. lots of people go into shops just to hunt around looking for items that are marked down. so instead of searching among aisles and looking out for signs you can be assured that everything in this shop is marked down in some way! Yes you might have to do a bit of digging to find the real bargains but if you are in the mood for a bit of rummaging for treasure this place is not half bad!

All the goods that Arnotts has seen fit to mark down. Mainly homewares. As the name suggests, you can indeed find great bargains here, but you may have to sort through a fair amount of hilarious tat to get to the gems. Or gems to get to the fabulous tat, it depends on your perspective. It’s a great place for the fiscally challenged, i.e. students, to go for to get something to cover the landlady’s ugly sofa/bedspread/photos of her grandchildren.

I have to refute Alexandra’s claims that this place is in any way disappointing. I recently moved house and found the Bargain shop to be a Godsend. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure after all. Fair enough, a lot of the stuff here is complete and utter cack. I just saw today that they were selling silhouette canvases of WWF wrestlers for 6 €. As much as I’d like to have an artsy portrait of John Cena adorning my wall, I gave it a miss. But if you’re looking for lamps, scissors, gardening utensils or bins, go here!

I thought this place would be promising because of the merchandise displayed in the window but the inside was quite disappointing. A lot of the stuff here you wouldn’t actually need or use. For example, there’s a rack of scented candles(only 2 Euro) that are quite tacky. There’s also lots of outdated lamps and mirrors. The crockery might come in handy, but the rest of the stuff was junk. Cheap doesn’t always mean ugly but unfortunately for The Bargain Store @ Arnotts it does.
