For about 20 years now I’m secretly hoping my eyes would get worse so I can get cool glasses but every time I have my eyes checked I’m being sent home with (near) perfect vision. Damn you, good genes! Luckily there is Specsavers, who test your eyes for 15Euro (special offer at the moment) including eye pressure and a photographic image of the back of your eye. You don’t need an appointment but the wait can be up to an hour, especially at lunch time, without one. The best thing about their great service though is that they check on your behalf whether you qualify for a free eye test under the PRSI scheme and if so, they reimburse the cost of the test by sending you a cheque in the post. Now THAT is great service!

I’ve been going to Specsavers for about 20 years now. I’ve always found their service to be excellent and any time I’ve had any issues, they’ve been fixed quickly and usually for free.

It was probably the second… and the third time I needed a sight test for my learner’s permit (an ongoing adventure to this day) that I came to Specsavers. After spending entirely too much taking glamour shots of the backs of my eyes at Vision Express, I realised my habit of forgetting to send the slip in was really going to cost me, Luckily the exam in Specsavers was faster and cheaper.
And a lot more understanding.
The wait was short, the actual test quite fast and once paid for I was back on the street in under an hour. Clearly, they have an eye on good service.

I’m updating this review for a third time because the saga of Specsavers continues.
I need to rant about their contact lens teach session. I previously thought that this service cost money so I was annoyed to learn that it was obligatory in order to purchase contact lenses. I now know that the teach is free but it is still causing me a lot of frustration.
Let me describe to you my teach. I went in about a week ago and desperately tried to fit the contacts in my eyes. After a half hour of me poking my eye out, I got it in but the woman at Specsavers said that I wasn’t good enough to get the contacts that day. I failed my teach! I was told that I had to rebook another appointment.
Yesterday, I went in for my second teach. I felt like such a loser, having to do it again. Anyways, to make a long story short, I failed again. This time I was told that my eyes were too dry and irritated to do the teach. The optometrist forbid me from trying after two lousy attempts. What the hell?
I find the whole thing bizarre. I think that the people who work here are slightly hysterical and lack the patience to teach me properly. So I’m a little slower than most, but, for the love of God, I need to see!

Went on to the Specsavers website and booked myself an eye test using their very easy to use booking system. I booked on a Saturday night and they rang me on the Monday morning and I was in having my eyes tested by Monday afternoon. Very quick and efficient I thought. The whole thing lasted about 30mins and they were very professional!
