This is the worst fish I’ve ever had. The fry batter forms a disgusting and hardened barrier that you could use as spackle. The cheese chips were microwaved. The curry chicken pie was ok because they didn’t make it(microwaved frozen food). McDonald’s is haute cuisine by comparison.

I know this is drunk food but man, this is the first place I left drunk and upset. Seriously the most overpriced McDonald’s grade food for double the price of McDonald’s. I ordered a chicken kabob thinking I would get sliced chicken from the skewer, instead I got a frozen breaded patty that tasted awful. I don’t care how wasted you are vomit or save your money avoid this place.

I have great memories of this place… wobbling home after a night out, stopping in for a quick snack box. Great chips, very good chicken. hard to go wrong!

I’ve decided to upgrade Roma II. On a stag pub crawl recently, we were making our way up Camden St when one of my mates says to me «Balls to this ‘eating is cheating’ guff… i want to see the night out. Let’s go get a bit of food». So we slid out to the side and into Roma II and got us some garlic and cheese chips. Boom! Now, hunger is a good sauce so even factoring that in, I thought it was pretty tasty. We were back in the game.

Try the fresh cod and chips, so delicious. The chips are delicious and the cod was so tasty. Usual dolled up girls and boys past 3am reverting back to their animal savagery as conversation ends and messy drunken eating begins. Shards of lettuce and smears of ketchup from their hamburgers decorated their faces. I took my food home and scoffed in it’s privacy.

After a long night in Whelan’s I penned a lovely little song about Roma II that I was sure would be a platinum winning album. it took off for a moment but didn’t gather as much momentum as I hoped. Now for your reading pleasure … Greasy Greasy Pizza Why are you so Greasy? You taste so good when I eat you Why do you make my stomach hurt in the morning? Greasy Greasy Pizza Why are you so Greasy? I know what you’re thinking this could totally have been a Britney song! That said if you’re really dying for something … greasy … after a long night on Camden Street this is your spot … just try to get there before everybody else does!

A Big YAY for Roma II. this is my favourite place for a bag of chips before you go on a hunt for a taxi to get home after a major session out in town. I was here last night and Roma II went up a star, why? because i got to meet Dara O’Brien in here! yes the comedian guy! I shook his hand and told him it was a pity he isnt on the Panel any more, he said a very sincere thank you and went on his , there you go even Dara O Brien gets his chips in here at 4 in the morning on a friday night! Brilliant! The Banter is always great in here, the queues are long so you tend to make friends with total randomers in the line and strike up random conversations, last night we had a poll going about who was going to X factor which ended up in shouts of Olly Olly Olly Oi Oi Oi! even though we thought Joe would beat him. Poor Olly! So after all the entertainment of the queue i got a steaming bag of vinegary chips and went off satisfied. I love the atmosphere, the guys behind the counter, the people you can meet in here, incuding the famous and of course i love their chips so YAY for Roma II

Bleh. I’m not a huge fan of Roma II, especially because it is right next door to an awesome little takeaway place called Fruit Tree. If I had to tell someone which one to go to I wouldn’t say«what are you in the mood for?» I would say, «Fruit Tree.» But this isn’t a review of Fruit Tree. It is a review of Roma II. I think that Roma II could appeal to a lot of people — if those people are drunk and it is late at night. The food is cheap but not delicious, but when you’ve been dulling your taste buds drinking all evening, I guess that doesn’t matter. Sometimes you do need to get something salty and greasy in you before you pass out, and I totally understand that. Personally, I would rather trek down to Tandoori Bite and eat some actual food. One thing that I will say I like is that amid the kebabs and burgers, they have veggie burgers on the menu. Since so many restaurants here don’t have such an option, Roma II doesn’t totally fail in my book.

There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that there is, in fact, a Roma 1 but they’ve been here so long that the name ain’t gonna change now. Roma II is ok, but nothing special, doing most of their business around that messy time when the pubs close. They do however, offer student discounts and sell very basic rolls for € 2.20. Which, to put things into context, is the price of a bus fare. Not too shabby, not too shabby at all.

Located conveniently right next to Whelan’s and the Village, Roma II is your only man when you need a bit of ballast after a night on the scoops. They batter a good sausage, and a friend of mine swears by their curry cheese chips(which look and smell disconcertingly similar to baby vomit). There’s also always a load of late night revellers there, all steadfastly refusing to accept that the night is over, so Roma is good for a bit of banter as well. And if you happen to be low on funds and in need of sustenance of a lunchtime, you can get a chip butty for € 2.20. Double carbs baby, you know it makes sense.

Ok i feel a bit ridiculous writing a review of a chipper but… this is is a really good chipper. Legendary in fact. The food is reasonably priced, plentiful and proper greasy. It’s open til some ridiculous hour of the morning. And conveniently located on Wexford Street, where you are quite likely to find yourself wandering around with the munchies on you at some ridiculous hour of the morning. There’s the added bonus that if you’ve lost your friends earlier in the night in Coppers, Whelan’s or whereever, you’ll almost certainly find them in here. You see? Legendary.

It’s notoriously difficult to find a cgood chippers in the city centre as most of the best ones(or really any ones) are out in the suburbs. Its even harder to find one on the South city centre — which is what makes Roma 2 even more impressive. Okay so it’s not the place to sit around and watch the world go by, but it’s the only fast food place worth mentioning in the whole area. Camden street, Aungier street and Wexford street are jam packed with chippers — but they’re not proper Irish chippers(by which I mean Italian) — they’re all strange Eastern European kebab and pizza houses masquerading as chippers — and each is as nauseating as the one beside it. Roma 2 is the real deal and an absolute must if you’ve never eaten Irish chips before. Chips, onion rings and garlic sauce are amazing. I love the fillet of cod, but the burgers are also fine. The location as well, right in the middle of a strip of pubs and clubs, makes it perfect for post-drinking food — when you won’t mind the uncomfortable seating. If it’s during the day, get a takeaway and bring it to the park. So again — Best. City. Centre. Chippers. Ever. Forget your boxty and your stews — this is what real Irish food is all about!
