I am just visiting Dublin, and was on my own wandering around Sunday afternoon. Lots of places were closed. I went in Rico’s because there were a few folks inside. I was just expecting some affordable kabab. The people make the difference, and Peter the owner did just that. On the weekends Peter makes traditional Romanian food. He turned my casual fast food drop in into a cultural experience. Everyone in the place was super nice. Oh, and the food was amazing and delicious. If I lived in town, Rico’s would become a regular stop for me.

Taco Fries. «Rico’s taco fries will change your life», a friend said as we walked by Rico’s at 2 in the morning. I’m not really hungry for life changing experiences I thought. 5 minutes later I’m devouring my boyfriends tin tray of chips, spicy garlic mayo, cheese and a wonderfully sharp tomato meat sauce while he tries to keep up. Yum.

I was out with a group of crazy Irish buddies as I was visiting for the holiday. After a night of boozing, we stumbled upon Rico’s. I just remember being amazed on how good the Fish & Chips were here. The Garlic Mayo is on point! The night got exremely entertaining as the feast progressed. Eating turned into singing, which turned into launching pieces of Fish & Chips gleefully at one another… the ususal. This place deserves 4 stars but I added one star for the sole purpose that owner managed to kick out all 30 of us in less than 5 minutes. Good times!

Disclaimer: I am an American. I studied at UCD last year and during my half year in Dublin, I thankfully stumbled upon Rico’s. Yes it was a drunken night but I began to crave Rico’s while sober. I frequented MANY other Kebab houses during my stay, and honestly none were as satisfying as Rico’s. Even though it was a bit messy(and greasy) it was the perfect amount. The service was beyond friendly and every meal was DELICIOUS! I am jealous of full time residents as I have craved a kebab as delicious since I left Dublin and returned back to California. Lucky for all of you, kebabs are a common fast food. Rico’s is definitely better than the competition across the street, and definitely made with more love :)

I got a pizza slice here as a quick filler upper on the way to a gig. My brother had been here before and recommended it. Muck. Pizza slice was reheated in microwave. I couldn’t finish it. It’s probably somewhere that tastes nice after a night out on the town.

I haven to admit I’ve been avoiding Rico’s for some time. The reason isn’t the food or the service. It’s just that one night I’d had one drink too many and decided it would be funny if I convinced the very friendly guy in the shop that my friend who frequents the place quite a lot was in fact a serial killer wanted in another country. Oops. Rico’s has been doing less business since some of the newer takeaways have moved into the neighborhood, and it always breaks my heart to see that same very friendly Rico’s employee staring out his window across the street at people going into the other shops. I’m hoping that the novelty of the other chippers will soon wear off as Rico’s is everything you could want in a chipper. It’s got a huge variety of menu, the right amount of grease and it’s absolutely delicious at a certain time of night. That said they also run lunch specials, while I can only admit to once having a late dinner there, I’ve seen queues of people waiting to get their fill of grease during the lunch hour. One last random comment, a group of guy friends that used to live in Dublin, were kind of connoisseurs of late night chippers and would specifically take a long taxi ride to certain places they liked, and Rico’s was one of them. I think that says it all.

I don’t care if the glossy magazines keep warning that our usual post-pub takeaways are just as unhealthy as the amount of alcohol we consume on a night out. After hours of dancing I need my guilty pleasure that is a greasy kebab with an ice-cold soda and am therefore not ashamed to admit that I often join the other late-nighters in desperate need of energy inside my neighbourhood diner Rico’s. There’s something about their döner that always gives me the much-needed fuel for the final steps to my house, and at that stage, I couldn’t care less if it’s not the healthiest of snacks. Rico’s is far from being the best kebab places around, but if you drown the meat in sauce, ask for it extra spicy and add a portion of pure-evil-to-your-heart curry fries to your order, you have a cocktail that will knock you out in a matter of minutes.

I have to admit that Rico’s is the kind of place I pretend isn’t fast food because I actually like it. Sure, eating there goes against my whole«no fast food!» ethos, but it’s not actually as bad as some places can be. It certainly is no McDonald’s — that is if you order the right thing. They do good kebabs and the taco fries are sound. It’s great when you’re drunk or poor because it is so greasy and delicious and filling you don’t need to eat again for 14 or so hours. I don’t think it would be wise to eat here regularly, but once in a while in between those salads and wheatgrass shots and you should be fine.

Cheap, greasy food. Really tasty, I’ll admit, but you can actually feel your life expectancy shorten. Still, € 4 Taco Chips taste like heaven… even if they look like death

I used to be a fan of Ricos back in the days when I was a student. Pretty much because it was all I could afford! There was a really friendly guy who worked there called Ben. I have no idea if he’s still there now though — probably not! I stopped going there when one night I was mugged outside it and my bag and everything were stolen from me. Now obviously, this was nothing to do with Rico’s, but it put me off going there for a while! I’ve passed it a couple times recently and it looks awful — like it’s gone really downhill. Don’t think I’ll be returning…

Rico’s is a terrible take away, in an area of such high competition this take away offers such terrible service that I cannot believe it is still open. The shop itself is pretty standard, the seats aren’t too comfortasble but this is pretty common for a take away. My major gripe is the food and the staff both which are well below par. I once got chips which were completely uncooked and when I complained asking for either other chips or my money back I was given out to as the guy tried to convince me they were cooked. I cannot advise you enough to avoid this place.
