Pull and Bear, I’d honestly love to know the story behind the name! Just sounds like it’d be an interesting story. But on to the shop. I caught this place in sale season a couple of months back and even with ridiculously low prices I managed to push my budget far beyond what it should have been. I strolled downstairs to the mens section and was beheld with a glorious sight. A wall of mens t-shirts racks of all colours sizes and funky patterns, all at € 5 a pop. IT’S ON! I don’t enjoy actual shopping so the drop in, grab a handful of random things from the wall and pay option was incredible! Then there was the runners, got a kick ass pair for € 25. My shoes are somethin I take quite seriously and spend some cash on, but this was a bargain. And they still look new even though they’re well worn! It’s like a slightly funkier alternative to the generic bull pull of H&M and topshop. Viva L’Espana!!!

I feel that there is something wrong with me. I mean besides the obvious of poor mental stability but am I so utterly destitutue when it comes to the fashion stakes? I mean I try to dress like a dandy called Mandy. And this spot allows me to. Be most of the previous reviewers are not giving Pull & Bear the love. Huh. I fell for this place many moons ago when my Spanish friend and I were shopping our wages away. It’s a Spanish brand. Spanish people to me have got a cool funky style going on. They are also slim for the most part so I can understand how the cut won’t fit everyone. But it’s so reasonable and so many colours! Most of my favourite items of clothing are from Pull & Bear and damn it if you think I look like a mess. I don’t care it’s all about me anyhow.

When I have seen something that I really like on one of my friends and asked where they got it from, ‘Pull and Bear’ has frequently been the response. This leaves me intensely perplexed as to why in that case every time I have been into the store I feel exceptionally indifferent by the items that lay before me. My friends who I have seen wearing Pull and Bear items are generally young people who choose to dress casually, rejecting stereotypes and wanting to feel comfortable in their clothes. This would infer that the store too to which they buy clothes from would represent the same ethos but I have seen nothing to support this in the good few times I have been inside. I have seen nothing to warrant tag-lines such as ‘bringing together international trends’, nor ‘mixing trends with street and club fashion influences and reinterpreting the style to create comfortable, easy-to-wear garments at unbeatable prices.’ This proffered philosophy, in my candid opinion, is fictitious. Having visited the store up to ten times by now, each time trying to bestow it with yet another chance and prove my budding negative opinions wrong, it once more fails to impress. Surely nothing that is so consistently disappointing over an elongated period of time, through the different seasons can be deemed as praiseworthy. Despite my best intentions I have thus been left with no lingering energy to fight this shop’s corner any longer and can only conclude it to be what I have truthfully observed — a lackluster store with humdrum designs on display.

I wasn’t really feeling this shop, though I was teetering towards liking it and wasn’t anywhere near disliking it, if that makes sense. The stock was more bad than good in most ways; the denim was inexpensive and they had some great cuts and colors. The basics like t-shirts were decent too. I didn’t find anything exciting, but I did find stuff that I would probably wear if it was in my closet. It’s all pretty straight forward and a little boring, but it errs on the side of wearable. I especially liked their rain jackets, which were way more fashionable than the ones I’d seen in every other store. They were only 19.95 too, not bad for cute and sturdy lined jackets.

I have some serious grievances with Pull and Bear. I don’t know who designs their clothes, but it seems like they’re blind in one eye and have only thumbs to sew with. It happens to me time and time again: I’ll see a cool t-shirt, grab it in my size and find that it’s really wide and really short. Perhaps they model their t-shirts on mister Triangle. Perhaps all Spanish men are shaped like Triangles(evidence may suggest otherwise) but all I know is, it’s cheap, but looks ridiculous. Well, at least the staff are pretty sound.

What with Roches Stores closing and the wholesale reorganisation of the Mary St end of Moore St, it can be quite difficult to navigate your way around the building that contans(contained) Roches/Debenhams/whatever you’re having yourself. It is in this sprawling nexus that Pull and Bear is located. It’s been a while since I’ve been in there as Henry St gives me brain trauma, but I will say: keep an eye out for when they have sales at unusual times of the year. I once got two pairs of jeans there for € 25. For both pairs; not € 25 each(which would in itself be very good value).

I think Pull and Bear tends to be a bit hit and miss. I remember when they first opened over here I was delighted, as I had been to it a few times in Spain and always knew it as being cheap and stylish. Maybe it’s just that I’ve gotten older, but there clothes aren’t as appealing to me anymore. Their stuff is still really cheap and good value for money, but it’s pretty casual and young. Like I like some of their t-shirts and hoodies, but there’s not a whole lot of dressy gear on the hangers. They guy’s stuff is quite good though.

I quite like this shop. It’s great for basics, they’ve got good, decently-priced jeans and nice simple shirts and that. If you’re into that comfy-yet-stylish look then this should be a staple on your shopping trips. It’s affordable and every now and then they throw up a gem or two that just make you happy.
