Powerscourt Waterfall

As beautiful as this is … it wasn’t worth paying into … you shouldn’t have to pay in to see nature … I could understand if there were guided tours or something but no … so yeah the waterfall is very tranquil and peaceful. The area around it is magnificent… excellent place for a picnic … benches provided and a perfect place to sit relax and take in and admire the scenery. but I wouldn’t recommend it for a walk. toilets provided. . And there is a tea and coffee hut provided. but the coffee is awful and a big rip off. so don’t bother and wait until you leave and get a coffee elsewhere or bring a flask of same …

This is the perfect place to chill out and relax. The waterfall is a nice area for family picnics and visitors to enjoy a barbeque. There is a vast amount of space to keep children entertained and a playground for younger children.

Since you are at the Powerscourt gardens, to visit this waterfall feels almost mandatory. Like everyone, I thought my ticket to the gardens included the waterfall. Nope. You need to pay a separate ticket to it (5 euros student).
After the initial shock (joking) you can actually enjoy the place, somehow. The watterfall is a kind of… disappointing. Too small and weak, I think.
I also found out the families go to there to have picnics and bbq and THAT seemed like great fun. So if you go there, bring food and some beverages because the place is perfect for that.

Ok, es ist vielleicht der höchste Wasserfall Irlands und er war auch nett anzusehen aber ich bezahle doch nicht 5,50 € Eintritt für eine Naturgegebenheit mit Picknickplatz und schreienden Kindern drumrum. Das Gelände ist weitläufig aber es waren leider keine Wanderwege ausgeschildert so dass wir ins Blaue gelaufen sind ohne zu wissen wohin. Es gab aber auch nichts weiter zu entdecken außer den besagten Wasserfall. Möglicherweise bin ich verwöhnt aber das war wirklich den Eintrittpreis nicht wert.

Found this almost by accident. A great place to spend the day in nature. Bring your bbq, bikes, lounge chairs and stay awhile. Gorgeous area with plenty of space on grass to set up for the day and explore the area.

i couldnt belive i had to pay to go into here, im only giving it an extra star for the kids very small playground, shop was closed so couldnt get anything to eat, i asked my husband when we where going to see the waterfall, he turned around n said thats it love, oh come on, ok i didnt except niagra falls but a trickle down a mountain that i had paid to see, n thats it basically a closed shop, a small playgound and a trickle of water, mite go bck to fill up afew buckets when the water charges come in but until then this place should be free!

Powerscourt Waterfall is one of the best natural attractions you can experience when you are in Dublin or surrounded areas. Within one hour car trip from the City Centre you can explore a truly Irish gem. If you like relaxing, while having a bbq with friends this is a really good place to go.
If you have plenty of time, you can also visit Powerscort Garden and Enniskerry Village which is nice. but on the other hand, to get the max experience I would advice to choose only one attraction per day otherwise you will be really tired.
[Driving to the waterfalls]
Driving from Dublin till Powerscourt Garden is nicely simple, then going forward you start seeing the wild Ireland, so, to go to the waterwalls you will start seeing narrow roads where sometimes it is hard to drive. If you are not familiar with driving a car in this condition of the road you have to take attention, especially if you are an European tourist (driving in your country a left hand drive car).
[Entrance Fees]
Entrance to Waterfalls is now 5.50 Euro per person (adult) but they have children rates (from 2 yr. old to 12 yr. old is 3.50 Euro) and Family Ticket at the cost of 16.00 Euro (2 adults and up to 3 children).
Before being there I thought the price for the entrance was expensive, then I realized how they are organized with everything so money are well spent helping also the Office of Public Works to keep this place in perfect condition and safe for the public.
[BBQ, Toiles and Walk trials]
You can actually park close to the waterfalls with your car. There are wooden tables and benches where to have a picnic and also you can make a bbq. So you don’t have to walk anywhere to have your picnic, just park your car in front of the table and enjoy your staing.
About 4 minutes walking from the main area there is a building with Toilets facility in impeccable conditions and a shop where buying food. So if you are lazy bringing your food from home you can buy here. Not so far from this place there is a playground areas where children under 12 can play.
There are walking trials where enjoy a relaxing walk around the nature and all are easy to trek so you don’t require trekking boots just normal sporting shoes.
[Wardens]
For somebody is unpleasant but, I felt more safe to know that park wardens where monitoring the area to see if people where behaving good, especially for the drinking matter. In fact is not allowed to drink alcohol in the premises (beer included). Funny story: Not sure why, but we bought alcohol free beer with 0% alcohol and we were told by them that it wasn’t allowed :-)
Again I see these things as positive because this place is also visited by families so better to have extra eyes.
[Bring always sun cream and hat]
Don’t let you trick by the weather. I thought the weather wasn’t great on that day but once arrived there it was hot as hell and I didn’t have with me any hat, sun cream, and I was dressed with heavy clothes.
I am sure I will repeat my great experience at the waterfalls.

Obsoletely must to be visited place, if you’re near by or on east coast.
On a nice day it’s lovely to have BBQ.
Entrance costs about € 5 pp.
Very good for kids and families.

Security/​Bouncers walking around in the uniform. Tarmac road all the way to the waterfall are you kidding me, haven’t seen any other country with Tarmac road going through park/​forest all the way to the attraction, these trips should be about long walk through the forest with your family where you carry your picnic stuff and it comes as a reward after the walk. But this looks like some roadside attraction where you pull up to take a quick photo next to. Better not let people to waste time walking let’s build a road so it’s quick in and quick out so they can get back to maintenance of the capitalist machine. I feel sorry for people here not knowing any better.

The powerscourt waterfall is located in the Dublin/​Wicklow mountains and is a short distance from Enniskerry and Dublin City. I love getting a car and driving up here with friends. The last couple times I drove here, visited the falls, ate lunch and then drove on to Glendalough which is about 20 minutes away. Easy way to make a fun outing out of the day.
They have a food stand seeking good and drinks, including hot food (burgers, hot dogs, etc.) which is also covered. So if it starts raining, run under here! The restrooms are kept decently clean as well.
There is a really good children’s playground behind the food stand as well. Perfect to keep the kids entertained post-​lunch and seeing the waterfall.
The cost is € 5.50 per adult although they have a family ticket option which could save you money for two adults and two kids.

Great waterfall. Really surprising to see such a huge waterfall in Ireland. It does cost money although I recommend going anyway or sending a person with a camera to go and take pictures of it and report back to the group.

Powerscourt waterfall is located close to the desolate Sally Gap drive and is run by the office of public works. as you drive in you will meet someone who is going to take € 16 for a family ticket but its well worth it as you can spend a day here as there is so much to do.
the waterfall is spectacular although not the biggest in europe it is the beautiful surrounding which simply adds to its majesty. and it is so clean and well looked after.
a few years ago i went to Niagora Falls in Canada and while the waterfall is unbeatable the casinos and fast food takeaways make it rather tacky while here at powerscourt it is natural, lovely and unblemished.
there are a few walks for the more energetic and picnic tables and a playground for the little ones.
the only niggling thing for me is the tiny kiosk which serves coffee and burgers. it could be so much better but i suppose it is so tiny as people only come here when the weather is good. but if you like to barbeque then you can do that here.

Ireland’s largest waterfall is worth the visit if you are down in Enniskerry — it’s just a short drive from the Ritz Carlton and the Powerscourt Estate.
Like Bronagh M mentions… this place can be a bit magical if you are there in the autumn when the leaves are changing. You can also get quite close to the falls and even a bit wet if you are not careful.
Tip, there is a car park once you enter the park surrounding the waterfall, however, keep driving and you can park even closer to the falls.

Powerscourt has always held fond memories for me. As a child we would always have a couple of family outings here every year. Now as an Adult I bring my kids here whenever we get the chance, they love it, weather permitting. Powerscourt is the type of place that reminds you why tourists come to Ireland. Well worth a Sunday to explore and relax.

Stunning and breathtaking, this waterfall is like a hidden treasure. I only visited this spectacle last May when my dad was back home for a few days — and actually I hadn’t even heard of the place before that! It makes for a lovely day out. The sound of the water splashing and the feeling of the little drops. it’s amazing. We also saw tons of deer hopping up and down the mountains. Seriously was on a nature buzz that day! Marvelous; worth every minute of the visit.

The Powerscourt Waterfall is stunningly beautiful and you can see some of it in the movie ‘Braveheart’ which was shot in Ireland. It’s a nice day trip from Dublin, you can either walk from Enniskerry or from the Powerscourt House. Admittance is 5 Euro for an adult, and 4.50 Euro for students. I’ve managed to fall into the lake at the bottom twice now– once was actually quite refreshing because it was a hot day– and it’s great for picnics. The only downside is that on a nice day everyone seems to descend upon the waterfall so you might have to fight your way through the crowds to get to the water. The Kiosk isn’t that great though, so you might want to bring your own food. Once you get to the waterfall and still have some energy left, you can also walk/​hike up to the waterfall and around to the other side of the valley. There is also a shuttle bus back to Enniskerry, which you can get to the Powerscourt House and Gardens for about 7 Euro.

I was here in September of this year after not having been here since i was a kid. I cantbelieve i waited this long to come back. It was a sunny afternoon and we needed something to do with some visitors. They had been around Dublinbefore so i thought, wicklow, what can we do there? Powerscourt waterfall was perfect!
really it is just a waterfall but it is a really spectacular feature, the time of year we were there was perfect because it was turning into autumn and the leaves were turning golden brown, just lovely!
As i said it was sunny but it was also getting kind of cool so we sat at the benches provided and drankhot cups of soup before headingfora walk.
i would recommend bringing a picnic with you, the soup was tasty butitwas expensive for what it is, as you would expect at a tourist destination i suppose!

if your the outdoorsy type then you will love powerscourt waterfall. i went there last year in the summer with my son and he loved it, theres great hikes to be had, and if you bring food and sit wheere the waterfall is, its just lovely.
i will definitly going back again this year!
its a bit pricy, but worth it if you make the day of it!

Powerscourt Waterfall is one of my favourite places to go nearby Dublin. It has the purest air I ever breathed, I swear. Located about 7 km from Enniskerry (on a dodgy mountaineous road), you have to pay to get in, but you can bring your picnic with you and there’s a little kiosk and a lot of parking. The waterfall is Ireland’s highest and looks absolutely amazing. There are a lot of paths in the surrounds to see the nature and the lovely sceneries. Worthwhile seeing any time of the year — I saw it once on a beautiful autumn’s day after it had been raining which added to the beauty of it when the amount of water running down multiplied. Stunning in the summer too.
