Pearse Station

How can you downvote this in any way? Its a building, a large building at that. You buy your ticket, they guy behind the counter with the suit jacket and a few badges or pins no better than the bob a job badge you got from the Scouts back in 96 completes the transaction.
The machines over your shoulder will soon make his Job obsolete, so he buys more badges to stick to his Jacket to make out like no machine can do his job.

You hit the stairs or the escalators, depending on your pace of life and get the train. If your one of those people who get places early, have a coffee in a paper cup, blow on it for 3 minutes, take a mouthful and get on the train where you gotta go…

This is a better DART station than most. It’s got a few shops and some vending machines and it has proper cover which is handy. Not much else, but sure, its well above what you will find at most DART stops.

Not the most exciting train station. Has been slightly done up over the past couple of years with new seating, food vendors etc. Strangely enough though they seem to have made a large new entrance/​exit onto Pearse street (the main entrance is actually on Westland Row) but I’ve yet to see it open. And it’s been there a few years! In regards to the toilets (male anyway) I’d avoid them unless you really need to go.

Pearse Station has been having something of a revival the last year or two.
New seats on the platforms. New digital signs. It is looking cleaner /​less grubby.
That said the toilets were still pretty horrific last time I needed to use them — trust me, I wouldn’t unless I had to. But there was toilet paper, silver lining at all that.
Another thing to take into account is the ticket machines do not accept 50 EUR notes. And get this, the ATM machine out front rarely has anything but 50 EUR notes. The guy at the ticket desk was less than impressed when I produced the 50 to pay for my ticket. Not my problem to be fair.

Pearse station is probably my main DART station as it is only a short distance from where I live and somewhat close to where I work. As others have noted, it does have a few key features which differentiate it from other stations such as a roof, making it much more enclosed and somewhat more guarded from the elements, a café, restrooms (be warned and use sparingly if possible) and lifts on both sides of the tracks. They also have quite a few automated machines, top-​ups and someone selling tickets and answering questions.
I am not sure why the picture which looks like a library is included on this review, but hopefully that gets updated at some point.
One day I noticed that they have a really grand entrance actually on Pearse street. One day the doors were opened (probably construction crew left it open) and I stumbled in. They should really open this side up as it was an impressive entrance although perhaps more people would just enter from the Westland Row area anyway. It certainly is more convenient for me.
Overall, it is my main station I use to get everywhere I need to go on the DART. It is probably better than most stations (hence the 4 star ranking).

I hadn’t been in here in a while so I was pleased to see when I went in the other day that there’s a new coffee shop opened now — Sobo. It’s new-​ish anyway. I don’t remember it being there previously. It’s nice as well — lovely décor and staff and good takeaway coffee that comes in regular or large. I had a regular for € 2.10 and it was pretty good. I know you can get nice coffee anywhere but it’s handy when it’s right in the station. If you have a few minutes to spare before the train comes you can get your fix for the journey ahead. And you know you’re not going to miss the train, which is always a plus!

Like a lot of city train stations, Pearse Station feels a little bit out of the way. It’s not on a main thoroughfare and it’s entrance is nothing like the rather grand Connolly Station or the updated Heuston Station.
But it serves its purpose just as well as the others do. Trains come and go, taking you to and from destinations around Dublin county. The station isn’t nearly as bustling as the others, and has a bit of an antiquated feel about it. As such, I find it rather charming.
As someone mentioned, it does have a roof, which is much appreciated on blustery days. Pearse Station is A-​OK.

You learn something new every day! A quick glance at Cathal’s comments have informed me for the first time that this station is not in fact Pearse STREET DART station but simply Pearse DART station. I say ‘for the first time’ but actually I have been jumping off the DART for years at this station so I am beginning to very much doubt my powers of observation!
Like Tara Street, Pearse now has ticket turn styles that assault you practically as soon as you jump out of the carriage so don’t chance going ticketless unless you’re prepared for the auld ‘jump n run’. Pearse has a little café on the southbound platform that comes in handy if you’re caught with a 25 minute wait (actually more an exception that the rule).
If you jump on a late DART from Pearse, you’re likely to catch a glimpse of some burly looking security guards who are dressed like they’re on a SWAT team. Don’t mess with them — the uniform alone frightens the bejaysus out of me!

Pearse Station (not Pearse Street Station, as it is on Westland Row and not on Pearse st, though Pearse St is very close by so it’s confusing) is not exactly a marvel of design like St Pancras, but it does have the distinct advantage over a lot of railway stations of having a roof. And it has a cobblers, and the snappily titled coffee shop, «Southbound» or something. And yes, the toilets are quite unpleasant, what with the UV lights to stop junkies shooting up and all, but a set of toilets is more than can said for most Dart stations.
Not saying I’m in love with Pearse St or anything, just putting things in perspective.

Ugh I hate Pearse St dart station. It smells like pee and is really dingy.
It has everything you need in terms of a ticket office, ticket machines, a little shop/​café, vending machines… but I still don’t like it. It’s just really ugly and boring and needed to be done up like 50 years ago.
Plus the toilets are just revolting.
