Overends

I used to come to this place all the time to grab a coffee and a yummt pastry from the takeout shop. I popped in yesterday after having done a park run, covered in mud and a bit mucky and was disappointed to see that the take away section has now been placed inside the paying barrier for airfield where you have to pay 10e to go in. This meant I had to go inside the actual restaurant to get a coffee. As nice as the staff were I felt completely out of place in my running gear. Sadly due to the change in the shop location I won’t be using this anymore for my takeaway treats.

Gorgeous new café premesis that promised so much yet the menu and food disappoints. I eat lunch here very regularly of late due to location and always struggle to find something good to choose. The braises are tough as old boots, soups can be watery, sandwiches uninspiring. Would love more simple café quiche and salad type options and gourmet as sandwiches.
Service was awful in the early weeks but they do seen to be finding a rhythm by now. Some staff abrupt but most lovely and chatty.
Cakes and scones are lovely do great place for coffee– not so great for lunch.

I think this is more of a café than a Restaurant and in fairness to Airfield they themselves refer to it as such.
They sell a selection of Avoca-​esque foods (sort of rustic, home made and tasty) and are one of the few places in the city that genuinely understand what it takes to keep a child happy when it comes to food… and indeed the parents. They charge just 3 euro for a child’s meal, we had sausages and mash for Junior.
I have described a few places as an Oasis in various reviews and I think it is probably more than a little apt here as well. After a couple of hours wandering around the gardens and farm (
) there are few of us who wouldn’t sell body parts (our own or others depending on what’s available) for a good coffee and pastry, Overends caters for this beautifully.
I had the soup: a medium sized bowl of tomato and basil (inc. 2 slices of bread) cost 3.95. very tasty but someone got a little too happy with the oregano in the making of the dish!
Friends of mine had their wedding reception here a few years back and it all went terribly well… just thought I’d mention it so that you know they can do big events as well.

What a great location for lunch?! your on the grounds of an old farm and a house that has been partof dundrum for hundreds of years.
the restuarant here is a kind of self service one that does lots of nice food including hot foods. they are a bit pricey but if you have children this does not matter because children get to eat free! not an offer you see in many places these days eh?
there is an outdoor eating area here too which is perfect for a summer lunch and then you can walk around the grounds after, something great for a lazy weekend!
