Newstalk

At Newstalk the rich are rich and the poor are poor.
The presenters are lauded and held on a plynth, kings of Dublin City, respected for anything they say and for whatever donut crumbs they spout while concocting ad libbed nonsense.
As long as it’s being heard on channel 106 –108fm, it may as well be gospel. Like priests, the presenters on Newstalk; George Hook, Bobby Kerr, Pat Kenny and the Off the Ball team are unmatched at convincing others that their word is the singular and definite one.
At the other end of this scale, working the Titanic’s engine room are the research interns who do most of the behind the scenes work, get paid a paupers wage and are treated as readily replaceable drones. This leads them morosely to Grogans every evening to have just 2 or 3 pints. All their wages will allow them. Basically, their entire stipend is washed away in a sea of Smithwick’s Blonde Ale.
Obviously they’d prefer to go to P. Mac’s but would likely run into their bosses and they’d prefer to leave feelings of inadequacy to the office and not let it spill over into their social scene.
The pretty ladies of P. Mac’s are fodder for the Presenters of this world. While the homeless drunken hags of Grogans are a Newstalk interns best chance.

Decent radio station with a few competent presenters and I especially like David Norris’s crazy appearances every now and again.

This will possibly be my only radio review and I couldn’t think of a better station. The Global Village is produced by John O’Donovan, an old friend I have shared many an Arthur with. Dil is the presenter and she doesn’t hold back in this equality-​focused show.
The show I was on was preceded with a gay panel and during that one, ballsy comments such as «was Jesus gay?» (courtesy of John O’D) were mentioned and were sure to prick a few ears. The panel I was on was about the law which prohibits the sale of alcohol on Good Friday which ended up in me serving shots and beer live on air to myself, Dil, the researcher girls and up-​and-​coming music star Fiach. Needless to say, the on-​air giggles followed soon after and then Fiach played us out.
After the show, the researcher girls had to go home and the rest of us dropped into to JJ Smyths around the corner for a couple of Arthurs. Dil had to go home too… baaaad slim!
I have to point out that everyone in that radio station is very friendly and welcoming and I look forward to my next visit (wednesday, I think)

I tend to listen to Today FM but when I get sick of it sometimes I’ll flick onto Newstalk. They started out as a very newsy station (as the name would suggest) but these days they have a lot of popular presenters and it’s made all the difference. I enjoy Tom Dunne and I love tuning in at lunchtime to listen to Eamon Keane. Ditto with Sean Moncrieff in the afternoon. It’s a real ‘talk’ station as oppose to music, but when you get tired of hearing Rihanna over and over again on another station, then Newstalk is a great alternative.

Since going national in 2006, Newstalk has gathered steam –today delivering programming that’s varied, entertaining and (mostly) thought provoking. Politics, sport, economy –no topic is safe as Newstalk’s stable of bright minds make the sort of radio programmes that are alternately a relief and a challenge to listen to.
While George «Hookie» Hook keeps drive-​time listeners on their toes with his 4.30 — 7pm «The Right Hook», the station’s more recent acquisition of former TodayFM muso Tom Dunne has added a refreshing counter-​beat to the staid march of some longer running programmes.
Once a great alternative to the repetition of some Dublin music stations, Newstalk is now the national answer to Top 40 blues.

I have a lot of respect for newstalk that offer a lot of hard hitting and interesting current affairs talk shows that keep you interested and dont bore you too the ground!
Their presenters are from many different sides of the media, and with each of them you will find a different attitude and character which comes across on the radio. you may hate some of them or love others but thats what makes it interesting.
Their sports shows are funny yet informed and they dont beat around the bush when making comments on usualy taboo topic which is very refreshing.

Newstalk is a talk radio station that thankfully doesn’t sink to the bends-​inducing lows of something like the FM104 phone show. Programmes change throughout the day. As you’d expect the most serious talk programmes are in the drive times in the morning and evening where politics and current affairs are heavy in the discussion. During the day it’s a bit lighter. 9am — 12 is my personal favourite Tom Dunne who light-​hearted and generally positive musings on topics of interest generally leaves you with a cheery feeling and altogether better disposed to the world. If you want to know what’s going on and get informed, intelligent analysis on it Newstalk is where it’s at!
