Moloughney’s

I went here for a Communion brunch and it was nothing short of amazing.
The staff were incredibly nice and professional. For a group of over 20, they managed to bring out all of our food hot and at the same time — not an easy feat.
We had a pre fixe menu, but the menu was extensive. I had the braised beef, the beet risotto, and the chocolate mousse. I kid you not, it was all unreal and I don’t think I can pick a favorite.
I also enjoyed a particularly strong margarita! Celebrations were in order so I could resist! It was delish.
The room we were in was upstairs and just really cozy. Really nice without being uppity or pretentious. No one at the brunch had any bad things to say about their food or the experience! They made a loyal customer of me– can’t wait to go back!

The coffee was absolutely amazing. Portions were small but fit the price. My wife and I had the eggs Benedict and it kept us full for a while. Service was wonderful and the atmosphere was quite and comfortable.

Went there by chance and it was a very pleasant finding! Had the eggs benedict, amazing hollandaise sauce, all ingredients seem fresh. Very tasty!

Service was fantastic and staff were very accommodating to our dietary needs, although I’ve never had so many comments about my habit of ordering several sides in place of an entrée!
Prepare to wait a little while if the place is busy, but take heart in the fact that most are probably return customers because the food is gorgeous. I love that the menu is updated seasonally, and the kitchen staff seem to strike a good balance between keeping things simple enough that you can taste the fresh ingredients, and add beautiful sophisticated touches that make the dishes worth every last cent.

Lovely spot for a spot of breakfast or lunch. Popped in here for a quick bite when I was in Clontarf and wasn’t disappointed.
Décor is beautiful, exposed brick, an old carved wooden door adorns one wall and the lighting is soft giving the space a cosy warmth.
Service was a bit frenetic but it was very busy, so it was easily forgiven. I had a ploughman’s sandwich on a floury roll with chips, excellent value at under a tenner. Definitely want to go back to try the brunch, the menu sounded fantastic!

We arrived here looking for a spot of Sunday brunch but unfortunately just missed out by a few minutes. How and ever, we weren’t put out as the menu we were handed, had plenty to get us salivating anyway.
Firstly, the exterior and interior of this restaurant is very tasty, lots of dark woods and exposed brick to give the place a lovely lavish look!
We both went for the ploughmans which was delicious and I went for the tomato and chickpea soup which was fiery and wholesome.
I oil forward to returning for the brekkie. On time next time!

We drove out to Clontarf to check out this litlle vintage shop, so we thought we might as well go for something to eat coming all the way out here. The interior is really warm, lots of dark wood, dimly lit… super cozy especially on a dull rainy day like today.
I went for my usual: eggs benedict. At 8 euro I was a happy bunny… they were perfect and the hollandaise sauce even more so. The brioche they came on were a bit too teeny though.
My pot of tea was only 2 euro… so all in all it came down to a tenner. score!
My friends were happy with their pancakes too, they looked delicious and a very generous portion too.
It’s a bit out of the way… but well worth it!

As people who live here know, the north side of Dublin is a little thin on the ground for decent places to eat — ironically, the closer to town you are, the less choice there is.
So it’s a delight to find somewhere like Maloughney’s in Clontarf, which offers elegant yet relaxed dining in a bistro style setting. I chose the vegetarian option which was chickpea koftas in coconut with jasmine rice. If it doesn’t sound stand out, let me tell you that it was absolutely one of the best vegetarian dishes I’ve ever had at a restaurant — a wonderful balance of subtle tastes, perfectly gauged, light in a way that vegetarian often isn’t, with the tendency for overcompensation in lieu of meat. This was made by someone who knows about vegetarian cooking, who understands that subtlety really is an option, and the resulting meal was simply delicious.
Desert was a lemon and elderflower tart, which was full on flavour yet light too, with a freshly made filling that was runny and very yummy.
Wine by the glass was crisp and cool, and the service was lovely — attentive, never overbearing, friendly.
The bill was very reasonable all told — 96 euros for two mains, one desert, two coffees, one glass of prosecco and four glasses of wine, and you wouldn’t get such value in the city centre for food this good.
With its seaside setting, I’ll definitely be back to try brunch after a bracing walk on Dollymount.

WHAT ARE THEY THINKING !
For as long as I can remember, This used to be my favourite place to go for Sunday breakfast before a walk on the beach just a minute away… brought my boyfriend & friends there last Sunday at 12 and the lady with the «clip board «was sooooo rude, moving lots of people from table to table after we/​they had already been seated just to maximising her numbers, putting her all staff on edge. Not one smile while we were being served !
No chance of relaxing, so disappointed & won’t be going back again !
The fact that im still annoyed about the way we were treated 4 days ago says it all ;-)!

Just left after a family birthday … Lovely service even got us singing happy birthday… really nice chilled out atmosphere. Liked the variety in the menu with a really tasty vegetarian option

Last minute 8pm booking — meal for two. My first visit although I had heard of Moloughneys beforehand. Service good, easy, helpful staff. Made me up and excellent vegetarian meal when none of the vegetarian options really appealed to me. Quality of both meals good — fresh ingredients properly cooked and seasoned. Birthday candle in desert delivered by three staff singing Happy Birthday to my co-​diner was a nice unasked for touch — the waitress who took our order picked up it was a birthday meal. Reasonably priced. Will def go back again and recommend to friends

I’ve been here a few times but hasn’t been here for a while when we decided to go for breakfast.
The place was busy for 10am on a Sunday. The décor is nice, plenty of space and good selection on the menu. They cater quite well with gluten free foods and also dairy free foods.

Out a good 10 minutes after we had ordered and I then asked for some gluten free toast. The waitress forgot and brought the toast when I had finished my breakfast, 20 minutes later.
Like other reviews, the food is pricey for what it is and the service only ok. It wouldn’t be a place I’d be rushing back to again, but it’s definitely worth a try.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised with this place.
Every year after Christmas, the family get together for a nice dinner out. Over the years with the family outings, we’ve had some wildly varying experiences. I looked at the reviews on Unilocal and wasn’t overly hopeful. I checked out the website and thought to myself «ugh. a million ingredients in each dish. its one of these places thats trying too hard».
So, I steeled myself for a night out that would likely end with me running for a bag of chips after we got home. Thankfully I was wrong. Although for someone as picky as me, the menu was quite limited, I ened up enjoying the food very much. I had a «mushroom gillette» with a mustard and cider sauce. To me it sounded horrific, but everything else on the menu was inedible for me (seafood or things with black pudding or such things) so I ordered it as there was no other option I could go for. It was delish! Some tasty mushrooms on a savory/​plain biscuit type thing, with a lovely mild creamy sauce. I almost licked the plate.
For my main I ordered a ribeye steak. I asked for it med-​well, and it was on the well side of medium. In hindshight I should have ordered it less cooked, but thats my fault, not thiers. It was a good quality peice of meat, very tender and flavoursome. It came with gratin potatoes which were almost perfect (I loooove me some gratin potatoes!). The OH and I ordered some fries and some onion rings to share as they were both very good. The onion rings were very good, and of the homemade kind where they are thin and crispy.
Dessert was decent. An apple and pecan tart, which was pleasant and not overly sweet.
The wine list was good and was well represented both globally and pricewise. Its nice to find somewhere that actaully offers a good bottle of wine at the 20 – 25 price range, rather than the supermarket plonk you find in tesco for 5.99.
The service was decent. A few drinks came late, we had to remind of a missed drink, and we had to ask to order wine as I think he forgot to come back to us. but the chap was friendly and funny, so I’m inclined to forgive him. It was an enjoyable evening.
Yay, I’m a fan!

Went for dinner here on Sunday with my sister. My second visit. Arrived in at 5.15pm, kinda a late lunch. Very nice waiter advised us that the kitchen’s evening service would be another 20 minutes, but we could order our glass of wine in the meantime while we waited, and were shown the menu/​specials etc. We opted for a 2 course for 2 people, with bottle of wine for € 55.
Starter: feta cheese salad with pear. Small but lovely.
Mains:
1. Wild rabbit, with creamy mash: lovely, I wish there was more… but rabbits being as they are, what was I expecting… a beef steak size portion, lol:-)
2. Veal parcel: not so much a parcel. Veal with herb stuffing (I think. only had a little taste) and a mix of vegetables.
Desert (or pudding as they say in the UK): Warm chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream: absolutely delicious.
Wine: Portugal, Quinta Sa de Baixo Douro, € 20. Went very well with the rabbit and veal, as suggested by the waiter. «Dark smoky forest fruits, medium bodied with gentle tannins.». as it said on the bottle. My poor wine palate didn’t pick up any of that though, except for the gentle tannins, ha:-) But I know what I like, and that I like!
If you want a quiet lunch, would not advise coming here early on a Sunday though, as they are very child friendly (not a bad thing either for some), and there is a lot of families with kids… although i have to say, they are the nice type families with nice quiet kids, you know what I mean. We were there late, so it was nice and quiet.
We had a lovely time, and the sun shone in from 6pm on, perfect.

I’m new to the neighborhood and was in search of a decent restaurant. In my book, «decent» means nice atmosphere, not too stuffy, not too expensive, and not too old-​school Irish (heavy meat, potatoes) but a step up from a curry or a chipper. Moloughney’s very nicely fits the bill. I started with a crab salad and had a cannelloni for my main. The salad was the best thing I’ve eaten in Ireland. Light, fresh, full of flavor. The cannelloni was very good and had a bunch of celery on top that was so artfully cooked that I didn’t know what I was eating – I just knew it was delicious. I had a chocolate tart for dessert that was utterly fantastic. Although not an expert, I found the wine list to be thorough and reasonably priced. I really, really enjoyed the food.
Now for the bad… the service was monstrous. I’ve had service that is slow and rude but never have I experienced out right meanness until my visit to Moloughney’s. Angry people work for this restaurant. A bummer since the food and environment are so enjoyable. I will definitely return but only when my sense of humor and good will are at their peak.

An unexpected surprise! The chicken liver pâté melted on my tongue! Of course, I didn’t order it but I promptly scarfed the rest of what was given me to taste!
The pork, black pudding herb sausage links with mashed goodness, leeks (I do believe) and something else I forget was what the head mistress ordered I tell ya!!!
Order the mussels starter if you even the hear the slightest sound of it calling you and I promise you shall not regret it. It comes with a cream sauce and bacon bits sprinkled in the cream broth. Yum and Mrs Eeee!!!
The gentleman who consumed this most appetizing dish tells me that the pork belly dish was a 4 on a scale of 5.
And so all in all this was a memorable new discovery for someone spending a fortnight on the Emerald isle.

I’ve been to Moloughney’s the odd time when I’ve been home an simply adore the place!
Whenever us emigrants return we’ve made Moloughney’s our go to for a meet up and we’ve never been disappointed with any aspect of the evening. I can’t comment on specific dishes as I haven’t been since Christmas (’12) but I seem to recall eating everyone’s pâté before they had a chance to…
I don’t think you can go wrong with this place to be honest!

Ah no sure wasn’t it lovely being in Clontarf for a nice evening meal? Well actually we went in for the early bird. The place looks nice and has a nice atmosphere but the food is a little underwhelming. Much of it is overwrought and needlessly fancy.
Thats not to say it’s inedible. I had a decent meal and the price was right given it was the early bird special. A real niggle I had, however, was the difference in price between the tapas size and the regular portion. It was somewhere in the region of € 1.50! Madness.
A nice evening was had by all, the staff were very friendly and helpful but over all something felt sorely lacking.

Nice décor but food is only middle of the road in terms of value for money. I had butternut squash soup and a bacon, brie and onion marmalade panini. The restaurant was quiet for a lunchtime but it was Monday. Staff were friendly enough but the lunch menu was limited.
Would I go back, yes but there are a lot better alternatives in Clontarf for a nice lunch.
