I am a chef and knows the wholesale price of all food I went here to buy fish for a dinner party and was shocked by the prices charged The fish was not the freshest either and the John dory was so small and at 47.50 euro a kilo Farmed sea bass sold at around 9.50 euro for a fish half the size of the Asia market summed it up Either frozen and judging by the eyes glazed a sign fish has seen better days Farmed salmon on the bone at around 27.50 euro another rip off I was so annoyed

This has to be one of the best Fish Mongers in Dublin and I have been getting my fish here for years but not recently as it is not close to where I now live. Heading out of town through Donnybrook I got a craving for fish and remembered Molloy’s. I held up traffic a little while I pulled into the side street and parked on double yellows — the things we do to cope with a craving! Shot into the shop picked up some organic smoked salmon and some Dublin Bay Prawns — found out the cost € 34.50 — gasped — paid and left. I am still in shock about the cost but then I was paying for the prawns out of the shell and they were Dublin Bay after all! Get fish from Dublin Bay before they start any drilling and screw up the coast. Yes a craving but boy did I saviour every mouthful.

For quality, this place gets the full 5 stars, for price they get 3, so an average of 4 seems fair! These guys know what they are about and only carry nice fresh fish — we treat ourselves about once a week, however they really are expensive and if you are on a budget then there are other places you can go(including nearby Tesco on Merrion Road). The big difference is tht Molloys rarely carry farmed stock which of course will always be a lesser product but cheaper!
